The Chief-of-Police is a major antagonist in the 2023 musical fantasy comedy film Wonka, which serves as a prequel to Roald Dahl's 1964 children’s novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and a "companion piece" to the 1971 film Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory.
He is a corrupt police chief that is affiliated with The Chocolate Cartel, who always bribe him, so he doesn't investigate their crimes. By the time of the film's events, the Chief-of-Police is tasked by Arthur Slugworth, Gerald Prodnose and Felix Fickelgruber to get rid of Willy Wonka, paying him with loads of chocolate.
He was portrayed by Keegan-Michael Key, who also played Pupa in Let's Be Cops, Alpha Wolf in Storks, Kamari in the live-action The Lion King remake, SkekZok in The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, Gustafson in Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey, Bjornson the Cheesemonger in Chip 'n Dale: Rescue Rangers, Honest John in the live-action Pinocchio remake and Wendell in Wendell and Wild.
Biography[]
He is first seen in when The Chocolate Cartel call him to arrest Wonka's clients, making a false arrest because his chocolate was way better than the Cartel's chocolate.
He soon goes to The Chocolate Cartel’s headquarters in the cathedral, run by the corrupt Father Julius and his chocolate-loving monks. There he is persuaded by 1800 boxes of chocolate to get Wonka out of town by any means necessary, including death.
He is next seen angrily pushing Wonka’s head into a water fountain and telling him to not sell chocolate in the town. He then bonks him on the head with his baton.
He is next seen multiple times during ‘You’ve Never Had Chocolate Like This’ chasing after Wonka, before figuring out how he keeps on getting away at the end of the song.
By this point, he has had lots of the 1800 boxes of chocolate, so he’s very large and needs help getting up.
Next, he is seen with Slugworth, Fickelgruber and Prodnose at the docks to see Wonka off after he agrees to leave town and to never make chocolate again so that Noodle and the rest of the group Bleacher and Mrs. Scrubitt have lured to their cleaning emporium can use the Slugworth’s money that Wonka was given to be free. Wonka is then unknowingly out on a ship that is rigged to explode, but he thankfully escapes and rescues Noodle, whom Scrubitt and Bleacher were paid to keep locked away for good.
At the end of the movie, the Chief is with The Chocolate Cartel at the cathedral, but due to all the chocolate he ate, he got so fat that he could barely move his legs. And when Wonka and Noodle finds the ledger detailing all the illegal deeds they have done and who was involved, the Chief tries to get Noodle to hand it to him, and when she passes it to Officer Affable, he orders him to give it to him, but Affable refuses, having found the Chief's name is listed in the book numerous times.
Finally, the Chief gets arrested, while Slugworth and the other evil chocolatiers fly up into the air after they ate Wonka’s special Hoverchocs, as all their chocolate from the reserve rose up through the pipes.
Personality[]
He is very brainless, as shows him forgetting to bonk Wonka on the head with his baton.
He is also very greedy and corrupt, as shown when he eats the chocolate and illegally helps out The Chocolate Cartel, even though he is a police officer, respectively. And he also only helps them because he gets lots of chocolate, further showing his greed and gluttony.

Trivia[]
- If the four main members of chocolate cartel do serve as parallels to the four bratty kids, then it’s possible that the Chief-of-Police serves as a parallel to Augustus Gloop, one of the Four Bratty Kids of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: both are gluttonous sweet-lovers, who end up becoming fat. However, watching the movie you see he wears a blue uniform and becoming blown up like a blueberry. Towards the end, he blows up so much his button pops, making it more likely he is Violet.
