The Chief Clown is the main antagonist of the 1988 Doctor Who serial The Greatest Show in the Galaxy. He was the most loyal agent to the Gods of Ragnarok and a member of the Psychic Circus.
He was portrayed by Ian Reddington.

Backstory
When the Psychic Circus began the Chief was an ordinary clown who was a part of the circus in its roughest and most difficult times. As soon as the opportunity arose though he decided to become a servant to the Gods of Ragnarok after they took over the circus. To ease their boredom he would seek out random travellers and force them into becoming acts in the circus alongside the Ringmaster and Morgana. This wall to the objection to Kingpin however a member of the circus who didn't want this, who tried to stop the Gods of Ragnarok only to lose his mind and be enslaved by his fellow co-workers.

Personality
The Chief Clown was a ruthless, destructive and sadistic man who enjoyed watching others suffer. He took great pride in his work and was unflinchingly devoted to the Gods of Ragnarok even to the point of betraying and abandoning his own friends and co-workers. He was also a very cowardly individual however who could be scared off rather easily and had severe temper control issues.
Appearance

The Chief clown was a tall, slender man who covered his face in chalk white makeup and exaggerated several of his own features through makeup. He wore two outfits; a black tuxedo with a top hat and white shirt as well as a baggy clown outfit with a frilly collar and large shoes.
Trivia
- During the filming of a scene were The Chief intimidates and berates Captain Cook for his failures a malfunction occurred with the rope and cage mechanism which resulted in Ian Reddington taking a brutal blow to the head which broke two of his back teeth. He decided to wait off getting dental treatment though as they were already behind on filming.
