The Chief Lion is a major antagonist in Beastars, appearing as the main antagonist in the Meteor Festival arc. He was the leader of the Shishigumi before he was murdered and succeeded by Louis, the red deer.
Appearance[]
Chief Lion is a elderly African lion with medium build and height and scars over both of his eyes, resembling a mask. He wears a suit and tie and walks with the aid of a cane, though he is still very agile. He has yellow fur with a brown mullet. He wears glasses, and is seen smoking cigars in his mouth.
Personality[]
Chief Lion is the cruel leader of Shishigumi, showing little to no compassion towards his subordinates and forcing the animals he were about to eat to strip themselves in order to embarrass them, thus causing their blood to pump rapidly and increase the taste of their meat. He exclusively eats white-furred herbivores, which is why the Shishigumi went through the trouble of kidnapping Haru. He seems to look down on anyone who shows mercy such as Legoshi when he chose to spare him after their fight.
Biography[]
The Chief Lion ordered his minions to locate and kidnap a herbivore with pure white fur. The Shishigumi locate a white dwarf rabbit named Haru and kidnap her, though they leave behind a shoe she dropped, allowing her friend Legoshi to track her down.
After obtaining Haru and taking her to Their headquarters some of the Shishigumi attempt to undress her. When Haru tries to resist and run away they tackle her to the ground. As the lions start to strip her, the Chief Lion appears and stops the Shishigumi members from touching Haru. The Chief Lion orders them to leave the room. He apologizes to Haru for the members' behavior and asks her to strip all of her clothes to see if she's pure white, or he will strip her by force, and forces her to bathe herself.
When she's done, the Chief approaches her and observes very closely all parts of her body, making her terrified and embarrassed. He claims that shaming the herbivores will be creating a deeper and richer flavor in the meat.
However, Haru suddenly stood up and kicked his walking stick, surprising Chief. She tells him that while he was bragging, she was writing her will in her head and that he will have the worst dinner, as she is extremely calm and the meat won't taste good. Annoyed, the Chief then says he was too soft on her, and that he will tenderize her now. As he was about to devour her, he got attacked and stopped by Legoshi.
The two faces off with the Chief gaining the upper hand by biting Legoshi's wrist, though Legoshi manages to free himself and knee the Chief in the jaw. Realizing the fight will just drag on if he doesn't go all out, Legoshi and the Chief continue their duel, with Legoshi using his claws and fangs. With one bite, Legoshi sinks his teeth into the Chief's shoulder blade and rips it off, ending their battle. With their duel finished and the rest of the Shishigumi subdued by Legoshi's ally Gohin, he and Haru leave the Shishigumi headquarters together.
As Legoshi and Haru are walking away from the building, the Chief wakes up, and he noticed Legoshi missed his vitals on purpose. With a gun in hand, the Chief attempts to shoot Legoshi, but is prevented from doing so by getting his arm shot from behind. He looks behind thinking it was another intruder, before Louis appeared, who then aimed his gun into Chief's mouth. Louis, disgusted by the Chief's actions wants the Chief to feel the same fear he made Haru feel. Despite his pleas for his life, Louis does not hesitate to shoot the Chief straight through the back of his head, killing him instantly.
