Chief Ocala or Chief Oscala is the main antagonist of the Warner Bros. Western film Distant Drums. He is the arch-nemesis of Captain Quincey Wyatt, the leader of an army of Seminole warriors, and is based on the real life Seminole leader Osceola.
He was played by Larry Carper.
Biography[]
Ocala was a vicious savage Seminole leader who kept prisoners in a Spanish fortress used by gunrunners in the jungles of Florida, and fed his living prisoners to alligators. after his prisoners were freed and fortress blown up by Captain Quincy Wyatt, he and his army pursued him across the Everglades.
Ocala manages to get some payback on Wyatt by burning down his remote island home and convincing Wyatt that his son has been killed or kidnapped (or both). Quincy challenges Ocala to an underwater battle to the death, which Ocala loses as Wyatt uses Ocala's weapon to stab him, scaring off his army.
