~ Chika telling Raku that she has no love for her daughter. |
Chika Tachibana is major antagonist of the Nisekoi manga series. She was Marika's mother, whom she had a bad relationship all the time with her daughter.
Her personality seems too cold and has never been interested in her daughter's life, even though Marika is being treated partially in the hospital. She cared for her daughter only to be forced to get married with someone chose by herself. When talking to Raku, it also seems that she doesn't care about other people either, she treats them like an object.
She was responsible for forcing her daughter to marry the person she chose to uphold the tradition of her family's lineage, and for the imprisonment of Raku and several people to stop their interventions with saving Marika from the wedding ceremony. She is the archenemy of her own daughter, Marika.
Appearance[]
Chika's appearance is very similar to that of Marika Tachibana, but Chika sports short, dark hair that reaches her neck, her eyes are somewhat narrow with depthless pupils, and she is rarely seen showing an expression other than her serious face.
She wears a large traditional kimono, decorated with different colored and patterned fabrics, which covers most of her body.
Her appearance makes her look very young for her age, which causes Raku Ichijō to mistake her for Marika's sister when they first met.
Personality[]
Chika is a very cold, cruel, and emotionless young woman who is shown as not caring about Marika Tachibana and only using her to extend the family line. When Marika made her mother a gift and gave it to her, Marika's mother tore it up the second Marika left.
Chika's personality made Marika and Mikage Shinohara hate her, which is why Marika calls her an immortal beast.
After Marika returns home, Raku Ichijō tries to persuade Chika to cancel the wedding, in which she asks him several times why she should follow his request and why Marika's happiness or treatment is important. Before Raku is taken away by Honda, he asks her what she thinks about Marika. She responds by saying, "That's gross. Do you want me to tell you I love you or something...?"
Chika does not have maternal affection for her daughter. She sees it as a tool to continue the family name and culture. Her indifference towards her own progeny stems from her own mistreatment by her mother. She, like Marika, also attended school where she made friends, but in the end had to give in to her own mother's demands and marry Gen not for love, but for his position as police commissioner.
Deep down, she has empathy for her daughter. But due to the restrictions of society and culture, she cannot let her fly whimsically. When Gen finally makes her realize why her cruel attitude isn't really hers, she breaks free from social stigma and allows her daughter to do whatever she wants, as far as intending to end the tradition in her generation.
