~ Chloe Kelcher writing to Ryan. |
Chloe Kelcher is the main antagonist of the Criminal Minds episode "The Angel Maker". She is a psychotic woman who is in love with executed serial killer Cortland Bryce Ryan and recreates his murders in the delusional belief that it would bring them together.
She was portrayed by Lauren Bowles.
Biography[]
The episode does not portray Kelcher's early life, but the FBI's Behavioral Analysis Unit (BAU) profile her as having come from a home with an absent and/or abusive father.
As an adult, she lived in New Canaan, Connecticut, where she served on the jury for the trial of serial killer Cortland Bryce Ryan, and became obsessed with him, believing that they are soulmates. Ryan manipulated her from death row, writing her letters declaring his love - while writing similar letters to several other female serial killer groupies. With help from corrupt guard Sid Rutledge, she smuggled Ryan's semen out of the prison in order to conceive his child, paying Rutledge with sex. She gave birth to Ryan's child, but the baby died hours later.
After Ryan was executed, Kelcher decided to honor his "legacy" by continuing his murders in the same manner, raping women with foreign objects and stabbing them to death. She also planned to continue the murders in the sequence Rice began them, with each set of stab wounds resembling a constellation. She stole Ryan's body from the graveyard and kept it in a refrigerator in her house.
"The Angel Maker"[]
Kelcher begins her killing spree on the first anniversary of Ryan's execution by murdering Delilah Grennan, inflicting stab wounds that resemble the constellation Vela. New Canaan Sheriff Merrill Dobson calls in the BAU, who deduce that the killer is a woman who is obsessed with Ryan, and probably corresponded with him.
Meanwhile, Rutledge realizes what Kelcher was using the semen for, and blackmails her for sex and money; enraged, she shoots him twice in the crotch before finally shooting him in the head, killing him. She then kills another woman, Maxine Chandler, inflicting stab wounds in the shape of the constellation Carina.
The BAU discovers that Kelcher is the murderer after reading her correspondence with Ryan and learning of her giving birth to his child. They track her down as she is preparing to kill Faye Landreaux to complete Ryan's "sequence", which she believes will bond them together forever. BAU agent Emily Prentiss tries to stop her by revealing that Ryan wrote love letters to several other women, and that he was not worth the sacrifices she made for him. now with nothing to live for, Kelcher lets Landrieux go and commits suicide-by-cop by pointing her gun at the agents, forcing Dobson to shoot her dead. She stabbed herself with the last constellation in the family Ryan was emulating to "complete" his murders.
