Choichiro Shitara is 72 years old and the head of the family. He is the eldest of three brothers and is married to Ayane Shitara, with whom he has one son. Two years earlier, the man fell ill with lung cancer and, according to the doctors, only has six months to live. For his funeral, he wishes that the Stradivari violin be buried with him.

For his 42nd birthday, Choichiro Shitara wished that his son Furuto would play the Stradivarius for him. Excited by the sound of the violin, Choichiro didn't want to give it up, even though it belonged to his younger brother Danjiro at the time. He swapped out the Stradivarius, but Danjiro recognized the copy immediately. An argument ensued between the brothers, with Danjiro falling down a flight of stairs and seriously injuring himself. However, Choichiro did not call an ambulance, but family members agreed that Danjiro was the victim of an alleged robbery. Both Danjiro and Chinami died shortly after the accident, and their two-year-old son, Kyosuke Haga, was raised in his mother's family.
28 years later, Kyosuke Haga returned to his father's family. On his uncle's 70th birthday, Kyosuke approached his aunt Emi about the Stradivarius, which was originally supposed to be his. Unable to keep her secret any longer, Emi told him about the agreement made between the family members after Danjiro fell. A fight ensued between Kyosuke and Emi, with Kyosuke pushing his aunt down a flight of stairs. After her death, he told the other family members that the Stradivarius was cursed. His aunt fell down the stairs after playing on it on Choichiro's birthday.
A year later, Furuto is supposed to play the Stradivarius again on his father's birthday. After his piece of music, he went to a balcony and met Kyosuke there. This one killed his cousin and destroyed the balcony to make it look like an accident. This made Furuto the second victim of the Stradivarius curse. Ayane Shitara in particular is suffering psychologically from the consequences of her son's death.

Hasuki is said to have played the Stradivarius on her grandfather's 72nd birthday. She then hires private detective Kogoro Mori to investigate the two deaths. Immediately, Kogoro drives to the Shitara Mansion with Ran and Conan. First they meet the caretaker Benio Tsumagari, who accompanies them to the young Hasuki.
As Hasuki briefs the private investigator on more details about the deaths, Ran notices that it is very bright outside and the mansion's annex is on fire. Together they all storm into the burning building to help the people who are there at the moment. Kyosuke and Conan manage to save Ayane Shitara, but any help comes too late for her brother-in-law Genzaburo.
The curse's next and final victim becomes the previously rescued Ayane Shitara. To distract everyone, Kyosuke suggests playing a piece by Mozart on a violin. At the same time, the still ailing old lady walks through the living room back to her room with the Stradivarius. There she listens to Kyosuke's music, climbs the ledge and falls out of the window. Ayane dies immediately after the fall.
Kyosuke Haga is eventually revealed to be the murderer by the sleeping Kogoro, confesses and tells everyone about the agreement made 30 years earlier. He slowly moves to a window to kill himself. But as a precaution, Conan had the fire department set up a jumping mat under the window. Shortly thereafter, he is arrested by the police. Beginning with Kyosuke's parents, Danjiro and Chinami, the sound of the Stradivarius had claimed the lives of seven members of the Shitara family. Six of them died and the young musician Kyosuke Haga has to answer for his crimes from now on.
Trivia[]
Despite Choichiro is responsible death of Danjiro (Kyosuke's Father), he is not target by Kyosuke, likely because he have only six month to live.
It implied that he is died off-screen six month later after the end of the episode.
