Biography[]
Background[]
Christie attended the same high school as Romy and Michelle in Tuscon, Arizona, and graduated in 1987. She aspired to be a news anchor. At some point, she began dating Billy Christianson, with whom she would use to torment Romy, who had a crush on Billy. It is heavily implied that Christie's family came from considerable wealth.
Romy and Michelle's High School Reunion[]
Christie is shown in a flashback as the leader of the A-Group, the most popular clique in Romy and Michelle's high school. She does not allow her friends to think independently, especially Lisa Luder. Her two other friends, Kelly and Cheryl, idolise Christie. One afternoon in senior year, she sees Romy and Michelle staring at their group. Deciding to torment the two, she approaches Romy and Michelle. She steals Romy's burger, and applies magnets to Michelle's back brace in an effort to humiliate her.
At their prom, Romy plucks up the courage to ask Billy, Christie's boyfriend, to dance with her. Billy tells Romy that he will, but instead goes to Christie and laughs with her about it. Christie laughs at Romy and finds her pathetic. She gives Billy the idea to tell Michelle that he will dance with her later int eh night, and leave her waiting whilst the two leave.
In the present day, Michelle vividly dreams about the reunion. In the dream sequence, Christie has married Billy Christianson, to Romy's disappointment. Christie also believes Michelle's lie that she and Romy invented Post-it notes, and gloats about herself becoming a weathergirl. When Michelle awakens, Christie is revealed to be heavily pregnant and already a mother and still married to Billy. Billy is now an adulterous, alcoholic real estate agent. Michelle and Romy maintain their lie of inventing Post-its to sound interesting to their former classmates.
Initially seeming impressed but surprised that Romy and Michelle could do such a thing, she revels in smug laughter when Heather Mooney, a former classmate, accidentally reveals the truth. Distraught, Michelle and Romy leave the reunion, but reconcile and decide their lives are impressive, and they no longer wish to have Christie's approval.
Romy and Michelle change their outfits to their own individual styles, and confront Christie. Christie churlishly mocks their outfits. Unfazed, Michelle and Romy rebuke Christie and explain what a horrible woman she is and has grown to become, and they no longer care what she thinks. This leaves Christie speechless. Lisa Luder, who has lost contact with the A-Group and is now an editor for Vogue, supports Michelle and Romy and tells them their outfits are "not bad". Christie uses her "happy marriage" to retaliate, saying that she is in the best position than anyone else, but Lisa replies that Christie is deluded if she thinks that she is "happily" married.
