Christine Hewitt is a fictional character and supporting antagonist of the British soap opera EastEnders, debuting on 25th February 1992 and then departing on 7th October 1993.

In her characterisation, she was the estranged husband of Greg Hewitt who ended up having an affair with established character Arthur Fowler while the latter was still married to Pauline Fowler at the time.

She was portrayed by Elizabeth Power.

Biography[]

Christine Hewitt first came to Walford in February 1992 as a client for local resident Arthur Fowler; she soon begins working for his gardening project after her son Jonathan proved to be unreliable with Arthur's helpful qualities.

Soon enough, Mrs. Hewitt harboured romantic feelings for Arthur despite his marriage with Pauline lasting for decades. They soon have an affair while Pauline is away and after Mrs Hewitt's marriage with her estranged husband, Greg, collapses beyond repair. This continues in 1993 until September that year when Arthur tells Pauline the truth and she slaps Mrs. Hewitt in retliation.

Shortly after Arthur's affair is exposed, his children are unhappy with Mrs. Hewitt for her actions and confront her. She eventually leaves the square on her own after Arthur chooses to end things with her, thereby reconciling with Pauline in the process whereas Mrs. Hewitt is left with a lonely future on her own.

In 2006, Mrs. Hewitt is brought up again when Pauline has an argument with her new spouse Joe Macer over her volatile behaviour and how it contributed to Arthur's affair with Mrs. Hewitt in the past.
