Dark Lord Chuckles the Silly Piggy (or better known as Chuckles the Silly Piggy or simply Chuckles) is the main antagonist of the show Dave the Barbarian.

He was voiced by Paul Rugg, who also voiced Altitooth from The Epic Tales of Captain Underpants and Baron Vain from The Modifyers.

Personality

Chuckles’s personality is a vibrant blend of comedic villainy, theatrical flair, and surprising cunning, all wrapped in a deceptively cute, diminutive piggy exterior. His defining trait is his penchant for melodrama; Chuckles revels in his role as an evil overlord, delivering grandiose speeches and cackling maniacally as he unveils his latest schemes to conquer Udrogoth. This theatricality is often underscored by his self-awareness of his villainous archetype, as he gleefully leans into clichés like building doomsday devices or plotting revenge with a flamboyant, almost performative energy. His small stature and squeaky voice only amplify this larger-than-life persona, creating a humorous contrast between his adorable appearance and his lofty ambitions to rule the kingdom. Chuckles’ love for the dramatic makes him both entertaining and unpredictable, as he often prioritizes flair over practicality in his evil plans.

Despite his comedic nature, Chuckles is no mere buffoon; his personality harbors a sharp intellect and a knack for manipulation that make him a genuine threat. He is a master of deception, frequently disguising himself—whether as a diseased weasel, a dragon trainer, or even King Throktar—to infiltrate and undermine his enemies. His schemes, ranging from brainwashing Udrogoth’s citizens with magical glasses to creating a robotic doppelgänger of Dave, reveal a creative and resourceful mind capable of blending magic and technology. However, his intelligence is often undercut by his arrogance and impatience, leading to plans that unravel due to overconfidence or unforeseen flaws. Chuckles’ pride in his “evil genius” status drives him to constantly challenge Dave and his family, but it also blinds him to simpler solutions, making his failures as spectacular as his plots. This mix of cunning and hubris paints him as a villain who is both formidable and fallible, endearing him to audiences through his persistent, if flawed, ambition.

Chuckles’ personality is also defined by a peculiar mix of pettiness and determination, which adds depth to his comedic villainy. He holds grudges, particularly against Dave, and his schemes often stem from a personal vendetta rather than pure conquest, such as framing Dave as a bully or sabotaging his boutique. His pettiness extends to quirky obsessions, like his fixation on pickled pigs’ feet or his disdain for being underestimated due to his size. Yet, this pettiness fuels his relentless drive; no matter how many times his plans are foiled, Chuckles bounces back with unwavering resolve, concocting new plots with the same fervor. This resilience, paired with his sarcastic wit and playful banter with other characters (like the Narrator or his minions), gives him a charismatic edge, making him less a one-dimensional tyrant and more a mischievous antagonist who thrives on chaos.

Biography

Chuckles is a small pig with a high-pitched voice who wears a cape. For this reason, characters often see him as cute. Chuckles' main plots are usually to take over the Land of Udrogoth or to destroy Dave the barbarian, his main rival. His main weapon is the Mystic Amulet of Hogswineboar - which provides him many magical powers.

His plots usually fail with defeat, though in one episode, he finally gets the upper hand by controlling the narrator with his amulet, which worked until the narrator lost his voice and Dave found a new one to help him defeat Chuckles. In another episode, he briefly took over Udrogoth by sitting on the throne; one of his new rules was that Pickled pigs' feet belonged on pigs' ankles and not in jars (assuming he may be seeking vengeance for cruelty towards pigs). Although typically a villain, he has been seen helping the heroes several times. In the episode Princesses and Peabrain he has a kind nephew named Knuckles the Silly Piggy who was visiting his uncle to learn how to be a Dark Lord because it’s a family tradition but he didn’t want to because his dream is to be The Harvest Hog and give presents to children all over the world.
