~ Pascual translating what Chuletl says |
Chuletl is one of the secondary antagonists of the 2022 animated film Las Leyendas: El Origen, the sixth installment of Las Leyendas film series and the prequel to the 2007 film La Leyenda de la Nahuala.
He is one of the Moira's ghost minions, along with Deveriux and Pascual.
He was voiced by Eduardo Ramirez Pablo.
Description[]
Personality[]
Like Moira, Pascual or Deveriux, he is malevolent and willing to follow the sorceress' orders. However, he can also be very trusting, cowardly and clumsy.
Appearance[]
He is a robust ghost man with pale, bluish skin tones. On his head and shoulders hangs a yellowish jaguar skin with brown spots, and 3 red feathers adorn his headdress. In addition, his long, straight black hair stands out above it. His eyes are completely black (and made it seem like the feline skin has a life of its own when his expression changes).
He has some scratch scars on his arma (in the shape of an X) and on the right sude of his chest, as well as some tattoos with a darker blue-grey tone. On the left, he has a deep wound from which his heart protrudes (his sacrifice being the cause of death).
He has a bright yellow chain that extends from one side to the other. He has jaguar skin gloves with white claws included. He is covered in another part of feline fur and a tattered and dirty white cloth, held by a green cloth belt with 2 red stripes.
History[]
Background[]
Before the events of the film, Chuletl would have lived in pre-Hispanic times as a jaguar warrior in the service of the Aztec Empire (1325-1521) and was sacrificed due to the ancestral traditions of that time that even the victor in combat was sacrificed (explaining the wound in the chest).
Upon dying, Chuletl would ascend to the World of the Dead where some time later he would meet Moira and she would force him to be her slave for his entire espiritual existence, which would lead him to wear chains on his body like the rest of his comrades (possibly as a sign of servitude).
Las Leyendas: El Origen[]
At the beginning of the film, he tries to attack the Codex Keeper with his Macuahuitl, but is easily defeated by her with a beam of energy. However, when Moira obtains the codex and destroys it, he cackles evilly along with his people.
When the sorceress reaches the Eternal Mirror , he argues with his comrades, asking her to open the portal between both worlds at once, although he gives up on forcing her when he sees Pascual suffering from being about to lose his voice at the hands of his mistress. While the mirror is activated, he becomes excited that he will soon be able to access the world of the living. That happiness is interrupted when Leo crosses the portal, and eats the power of the Eternal Mirror. When trying to catch him, the baby releases a wave that expels him along with the others a few meters. In an attempt to snatch his magic, he prepares to attack him with his characteristic weapon, but Finado and Moribunda arrive in time to protect him as best they can. When trying to attack them, he receives Aniceto 's fire breath . He hits his Macuahuitl to extinguish the flames, while between him, Pascual and Deveriux, they strive to finish off the old alebrije and his skulls. As the Mirror begins to lose power and is about to explode, he and his comrades become fearful. Finally, he receives the energy of the place, being noticeably hurt.
He tells Deveriux that he doesn't know Moira's whereabouts when he asks him. After Moira orders them to bring the boy back and enlist Chimo 's help , he calls his Owl Alebrije to find the boy, along with Finado, Moribunda and Aniceto, while he sets out to find the young ghost.
When they arrive at the indicated place and explain what has happened, the jaguar warrior makes it clear that they have a plan. Meanwhile, he and Deveriux appear before the protagonists to insist that they hand over Leo, or else they would be destroyed this time. Making them believe that he would attack them, Chuletl goes to Chimo to disguise a battle by winking (thinking that he was not going to fight seriously). Contrary to what he believed, he is beaten several times, and has no choice but to flee. In another scene, it is discovered that it was all a trap by Moira's henchmen to gain Chimo's trust, although he admits that it was a good beating that he gave them both.
As the group is crossing the Valley of a Thousand Gazes, a candle firefly distracts them, accidentally hitting Deveriux, leading to a fight between the two, interrupted by Pascual. But, when they find out that they have angered these insects, he screams in terror, and then tries to push them away from him, hitting his companions in the process, before they make a retreat. It is in the Cave of Silence, when he appears as bloated as the other 2, asking if they should cross the place despite it being a river of burning lava with no safe alternative to cross.
When his Alebrije spies on Eva 's room , he seems to be moved by Chimo's delay in snatching the baby. However, he was only watching a comedy show with Deveriux. As he continues to stalk the team, he insists to Pascual whether they are close yet, receiving the latter's refusal. Too late, he realizes that a huge Alebrije Octopus is catching up to them, so using improvised oars and half a tree trunk, they escape from the animal as quickly as they can.
Hiding at a crossroads, he shows his people the paths to follow, seeing how the places contradict each other, and returns to his hiding place when he hears Moribunda's song. Just when Chimo refrains from kidnapping Leo, he breaks the rock of his alebrije's transmission, screaming in fury.
Later, he appears with Pascual, holding Finado and Moribunda in his hands, preventing them from escaping. When the baby is encapsulated, he calls his Alebrije to take him to the Mirror. However, Moribunda kicks him so that he accidentally releases them. When the Cave Monster appears, he flees the place using a ladder that was hanging in a hole. Only Pascual and he manage to get out unharmed, and he cuts off the exit with his weapon to prevent the team from doing the same.
When he loads Leo into the Eternal Mirror, he asks Pascual about Moira's whereabouts, and is frightened by a bolt of lightning from her scepter. When he asks about the child, she shows him to him. Although they are already reunited, he is terrified by the witch's new appearance.
After opening a portal to the World of the Living, he enters first. He reaches the roof of the Old Mansion , where he is seen smiling at being able to fulfill Moira's goals. That would be paused by the appearance of Eva, Moribunda and Finado, being tied up by the latter. After the blue skull was able to rescue Leo from falling into the void, Chuletl makes an effort to reach him, although he stumbles at the last second, yelling at him angrily. As a result, he is hit 4 times with the sphere that holds the baby captive. When Pascual and the skulls were hanging, it is the weight of the warrior that makes them fall to the ground, hurting themselves again.
After Moira is turned into a tree by Eva, she teams up with Pascual to attack her along with Chimo, but is definitively defeated when she seals them in the main statues of the Mansion.
