Chungil Ji is a minor antagonist in the survival horror web-manwha Forest of Humans, created by Junho Hwang.
An elderly torturer who was one of the ten death row convicts chosen to be experimented on at the facility, before he is broken out and attempts to escape.
Personality[]
Unlike all of the other convicts, Chungil Ji does not speak and remains quiet and reserved, staring off into space usually when he’s not moving. Despite this, it’s made apparent that Chungil is just as much as a monster as the other convicts. He is a demented child torturer who gained enjoyment over torturing people, particularly children. Though according to Gyeongshik, Chungil cared for the children and didn’t want to kill them, but they ended up dying anyway.
Biography[]
Chungil Ji owned a junkyard where he made a torture rack in the back. He would then lure in children before having them be tortured, where he particularly enjoyed mutilating and whipping them, causing them to die. He was arrested and placed in death row, where he and nine other convicts were chosen to be placed in a facility to be experimented on before executed. During his interview, Chungil simply stared into the camera.
Chungil was freed by Hyeseon Kim after she released all the convicts, apart from Gihwan Kang, and they all massacre the staff, with Chungil staying behind in the back observing. After Jaejun Park kills Bohyeon Lee and flees deeper into the complex with Ru Ha, Junho Park has Chungil go with Chungshik Lee, Gyeongshik Kim, and Giwung Kim.
Chungil follows behind as they investigate and try to find Ru Ha and Jaejun before they discover Yeongsuk’s body. Chungshik attempts to rally his group to kill Junho and Hyeseon until Jaejun turns off the power wheee Chungil, alongside Gyeongshik and Giwung, decide to turn in and attack Chungshik. They stab and chase him through the complex, cornering him in a room before Chungshik kills himself.
Giwung separates himself from Gyeongshik and Chungil and the two find his corpse, having been killed by Hyeseon and Junho, and they briefly think about who has died so far. They then find Ru Ha, having trying to commit suicide. Chungil leaves as Gyeongshik talks to Ru Ha and motivates her to not die, but it’s revealed that he made a promise to Chungil to torture Ru Ha alive for as long as possible. Chungil comes back with various tools as they prepared to torture Ru Ha for as long as possible, with Gyeongshik apologizing to her as Chungil simply caresses some objects. Before they can torture her, however, Jaejun (having been knocked out by Gihwan) arrives, stabbing Gyeongshik in the head before bashing Chungil in the head with a hammer, killing him instantly.
Trivia[]
- Despite not speaking, it’s implied he isn’t incapable of speaking. When Gyeongshik asked by Ru Ha to help her, he tells her that he agreed to helping Chungil first, implying that he asked Gyeongshik himself to help him torture Ru Ha.
