Ciddarin "Cid" Scaleback is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Scorch) of the 2021 Disney+ animated series Star Wars: The Bad Batch.
An informant for the Jedi as well as something of a criminal networker in her own right, Cid was the main provider of jobs for Clone Force 99 after their defection from the Empire, providing them shelter in return for helping her make profit. However, they decided to sever ties with her due to her poor treatment of them and she soon sold them out to the Empire in retaliation.
She is voiced by Rhea Perlman, who also played Shirley in To Grandmother's House We Go and Reeka in My Little Pony: The Movie (1986).
Biography[]
Cid was the Trandoshan owner of Cid's Parlor, a cantina on the planet of Ord Mantell. While never exactly fair in her dealings with the Bad Batch, Cid nonetheless gave them a place to call home. Still, her criminal leanings and bad financial treatment of the clones, and even outright abandonment at one point, left a very sour taste in their mouth, to the point where they decided it best to cut their ties with her. Cid shortly after threatened the clones with selling them out to The Empire, something she would ultimately do when they were at their most vulnerable and returned to Ord Mantell.
Cid later sold out her friend Phee to the Empire in season 3, albeit not willingly, as she is being tortured by CX-2 on behalf of Hemlock to find out the whereabouts of the Bad Batch and Omega. It's implied that he killed her afterwards.
Personality[]
Cid was exceptionally greedy, and despite having some standards, was rather morally bankrupt in the grand scheme of things. While she was hospitable to the Bad Batch and could even treat them with kindness and care sometimes, including showing Omega how to use an energy bow, in the end, she would only ever truly look out for herself.
Whenever the clones did missions for her, no matter how dangerous or illegal, Cid routinely took the overwhelming share of the profit, and not only that, would actually charge them for simply staying with her. This fee would be used to try and muscle control over the Bad Batch, and she did not take kindly to them thinking about leaving her services.
When push came to shove, Cid proved she did not actually care about them, as after not hearing from them after a job, she was very quick to threaten the clones with ratting them out to the Empire. Displaying a ruthlessness and callousness that others, such as Dowutin gangster Grini Millegi, have warned the clones of before, Cid betrayed them at the worst time. It should be noted though, that while she did not hesitate to sell them out, during and after the betrayal, she was visibly the upset, perhaps having some remorse for her actions.
Despite her betrayal of Clone Force 99, Cid refused to give any more info regarding them and had to have it tortured out of her, suggesting a degree of loyalty to them (or more accurately, to their mutual friend Phee Genoa).
Trivia[]
- Cid is heavily despised for mistreating the Bad Batch to the point where she was willing to throw them under a bus to save her skin. Like Pong Krell, she even has a subreddit called “r/fuckcid” for all of the hate she receives.
