Cindersaur is a minor antagonist in the Transformers franchise, especially in Generation One. The original version of the character was based on a figure from the 1988 toyline.
Marvel Comics[]
Cindersaur first appeared in the UK-exclusive story "Enemy Action", where he and fellow Firecons Sparkstalker and Flamefeather were sent to Earth from Cybertron to make contact with future Decepticon Galvatron in the hope of gaining him as an ally. They encountered the Sparkabots, similarly sent to Earth to monitor Galvatron, and a fight broke out between the two groups. Cindersaur roasted Fizzle with his flame breath, sending him into a lake, before being taken down by Guzzle.
Cindersaur and the other Firecons returned in "Deadly Games", working with an alien named Zabra. Cindersaur and the others provided Zabra with Autobot prisoners to use in gladiatorial games and managed to capture the Sparkabots, while Ultra Magnus was condemned to fight in the ring. When Ultra Magnus defeated Zabra, and the Sparkabots escaped and gunned down his other Decepticon allies, Cindersaur and the others beat a hasty retreat. He made his only on-panel appearance in the US comic in Issue #46, which also portrayed him and the other Firecons as jailers on Cybertron. As part of a scheme by Scorponok to set up the Roadjammer bounty hunters, they had three of their prisoners, Fizzle, Sizzle and Backstreet, sent to Earth for a test.
Cindersaur made his last appearance in the UK stories "Demons" and "Dawn of Darkness", where he was part of a squad led by Ruckus sent to investigate the deaths of three Decepticons in Cybertron's undercity. Encountering the Autobot Classic Pretenders, they believed them responsible until they were all attacked by a group of energy-draining demons. Cindersaur tried using his fire breath on the creature only for it to be reflected back at him, incinerating him. Despite this, he was mentioned by Krok in US Issue #79 as among the Decepticons taking part in the invasion of Klo, where he was responsible for the only Decepticon casualty of the campaign when he accidentally incinerated Sparkstalker.
