Circe is an antagonist in the DC Animated Universe appearing as the main antagonist of the Justice League Unlimited episode "This Little Piggy".

She was voiced by Rachel York.

Biography[]

Circe is an incredibly powerful sorceress initially imprisoned in the Underworld for her crime against humanity. She escapes the and decides to target Wonder Woman because of her hatred of her mother, Hippolyta. Circe uses her mystical powers to turn the Amazon princess into a pig and later performs as lead singer at a nightclub called the Amphitheater.

Batman and the magician mystic Zatanna managed to track Circe with the help of her former cellmate, Medusa. They successfully fend off the first onslaught of animals, though Circe proved relentless. Batman soon noted magic has a price and asked what he would he have to do for her to lift the spell off Wonder Woman.

Interested, Circe agreed to turn Wonder Woman back to human if Bruce performed a song for her, which he did, and Circe was amazed by the act, even crying tears of joy. She kept her word and reverted the spell she cast on Wonder Woman.

Powers and Abilities[]

Circe's most well known ability is turning humans into animals. This magical power isn't limited to living things and can be used to turn inanimate objects into animals as well which Circe demonstrates when she turns a crowbar into a snake and Batman's batarangs into doves.

Trivia[]

Circe is referred to as a goddess by Zatanna in passing. Whether she is literally a goddess in this universe is unclear, as others refer to her as a sorceress or witch, but as a powerful immortal with very potent magic, she fits the trope criteria at least.
