Circus Baby is a major antagonist in the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise, specifically serving as the main antagonist of Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location, one of the two secondary antagonists of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria Simulator (alongside Molten Freddy) and a supporting antagonist in both Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted and its sequel Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted 2.

She is possessed by Elizabeth Afton, the daughter of William Afton and sister of Michael Afton and the Crying Child, who was killed by the clown animatronic and later haunted it as an undead spirit. After fusing with the other Funtime animatronics to create a hybrid called Ennard, she was ejected due to her controlling nature and repaired herself, becoming Scrap Baby. She was later burned to death in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza Place by Henry Emily, setting Elizabeth's soul free.

As Baby, she is voiced by Heather Masters, who also played Glamrock Chica and Vanessa in Security Breach. As Elizabeth, she is voiced by Zehra Jane Naqvi, who also played the Bidybabs.

Appearance

Baby is a clown-like animatronic humanoid. She has a clown-like face and she holds a microphone in one hand. She has two orange-brown pigtails, and her torso resembles a white dress with red frills on her shoulders, there is a yellow triangle in the middle of her stomach with round edges, which houses a 3- bladed metallic fan in a circular hole. She also has a red tutu.

Despite being designed after a little girl, Baby is actually a large animatronic, standing at 7'2" tall and weighing 585 pounds.

Personality

Baby is devious, yet also very polite and concerned for the well-being of Michael (but this is only she can gain his trust and keep his body alive to combine Ennard with him). She is also continuously depressed about a past event in which she had killed (or assimilated) Elizabeth unintentionally, though this may be Elizabeth herself attempting to conceal the fact that her soul is possessing Baby.

Even after becoming a part of Ennard, Baby insists sadly that she does not want to hurt Michael (most likely due to Elizabeth and Michael being siblings), and that he won't die from the Scooper, and will instead only be in pain briefly, before permanently becoming a part of Ennard (this suggesting that she will remove his organs with the Scooper), and is very desperate to protect herself and her fellow friends. However, this may be simply so Michael will not be against the plan.

Between the fifth and sixth game, Baby seemingly became meaner and more of a control freak, with this going to the point that the Funtimes had to kick her. Even then, Baby thought she is superior to them, saying that they will be "lost" without her, and that she can put herself back together.

However, in the sixth game, after the Funtimes (mainly Funtime Freddy) ejected her from Ennard, Baby is depicted as less sympathetic and inherently malicious, due to Elizabeth's spirit now aspiring to be an insane killer like her father. This is possibly because of Baby’s programming gradually corrupting her soul, before combining as Ennard corrupts her fully. Baby now speaks in a more sinister tone and taunts Michael for not realizing who his employer is. However, in the ending it's shown she is scared of dying, seeing as she seems scared when we see her burning to death.

It's implied that Baby and Ballora are more aware than the other Funtime Animatronics.

Biography

Backstory

“	Did you know that I was on stage once? It wasn't for very long. Only one day. What a wonderful day, though. I was in a small room with balloons and a few tables. No one sat at the tables, though, but children would run in and out. Some were afraid of me, others enjoyed my songs. Music was always coming from somewhere else, down a hall. I would always count the children, I'm not sure why. I was always acutely aware of how many there were in the room with me. Two, then three, then two, then three, then four, then two, then none. They usually played together in groups of two or three. I was covered in glitter. I smelled like birthday cake. There were two, then three, then five, then four. I can do something special. Did you know that? I can make ice cream, although I only did it once. There were four, then three, then two, then one. Something happened when there was one. A little girl, standing by herself. I was no longer myself, and I stopped singing. My stomach opened... and there was ice cream. I couldn't move, at least not until she stepped closer. There was screaming for a moment, but only for a moment. Then other children rushed in again, but they couldn't hear her over the sounds of their own excitement. I still hear her sometimes. Why did that happen?	„

Elizabeth Afton.

After the first Freddy Fazbear's Pizza location closed down, William Afton created Circus Baby's Pizza World. Circus Baby, the titular robot, was designed to kill children, like every other robot. A board member from Fazbear Entertainment interviews William Afton about Baby's functions, and William presents everything she can do, except the killing functions. The board member says to Afton that he isn't talking about these functions. William had a daughter called Elizabeth Afton, and Circus Baby was seemingly made for her (which could be a lie or what the girl was thinking). Elizabeth begs William to allow her to go to Baby, but William doesn't let her, knowing what will happen to her. While William isn't looking, Elizabeth goes near to Baby. Baby's AI eventually calculates that no one is in the room besides her and Elizabeth, and kills Elizabeth, dragging her body into Baby's stomach. William eventually finds out about what happened and cancels the grand opening for the location, covering up the incident by saying that it was due to gas leaks (but apparently, he thinks that her death was a good move to his experiments).

Elizabeth in 1985 possesses Circus Baby, changing her eye color from blue to green. William realizes this, but in spite of that, still orders his employees to shock her just because it was required. Sometime afterwards, William opens a rental service called "Circus Baby's Entertainment & Rental" to fuel his goals, with the location itself being under his own house.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Sister Location

Sometime after FNaF 1, William sends his son, Michael, to take a job as a technician at Circus Baby's Entertainment and Rental with the goal of freeing his daughter. On his first night, Michael is instructed by HandUnit to shock Baby, although she never actually appears behind her window. Despite this, HandUnit congratulates Baby for getting back on her stage.

When Baby sees Michael during the blackout on the second night, she gains his trust by being non-aggressive towards him and guiding him throughout the facility, giving him the advice to avoid the animatronics.

On the third night, she recounts to Michael the story of the day she killed Elizabeth. After he is knocked unconscious by Funtime Foxy, Baby hides him inside a decommissioned spring lock suit in the Scooping Room, telling him about the Scooper before instructing him on keeping the suit's spring locks wound up. She also mentions how she has learned to "pretend", considering it very important.

Real Ending

“	Good. A hatch should have opened. Take the card that you find inside. Now you must turn back. I will guide you through Funtime Auditorium, so you can reach the Scooping Room. When you are there, I want you to destroy this body. Put the card into your handheld device, and I can continue to speak to you. Now, press the green button to your left. This will send me to the Scooping Room. You must follow my instructions in Funtime Auditorium. Ballora is going to follow you. She will try to catch you. I will help you avoid her. She will not follow you inside the Scooping Room. She is afraid. Go back, now.	„

On the fifth night, all of the animatronics, including Baby, have been to the Scooping Room and are scooped of all their insides, which form together as the animatronic, Ennard. Baby, who is Ennard's primary consciousness, uses her voice to lure Michael, under the impression of still being inside her suit, to the Scooping Room, where she reveals her true nature and scoops Michael. Wearing Michael as a costume, Ennard successfully escapes the location.

However, some time later, Ennard has to yet again eject out of Michael's body as it began rotting, and vomits itself out into the sewers. However, due to the Scooper being an injector for Remnant, Michael manages to survive and gets up, his soul still inside the body. Baby's voice can be heard repeating the phrase "You won't die" during Michael's revival.

Fake Ending

In the Fake Ending, if Michael follows Baby's instructions and has finished Baby's minigame, he will enter the Private Room, which is heavily implied to be his father's office, similar to the office in Freddy Fazbear's Pizza from the first game. The player must then survive the night by preventing Ennard from getting into the room. When the night finally ends, Baby, as Ennard, vows it will find a way to escape, which it does, and follows Michael home.

During the night in the secret room, it is further implied that Elizabeth's soul has active influence or control on Baby/Ennard.

Leaving Ennard

Sometime after the events of Sister Location, the souls inside of the other three Funtimes got into a fight with Baby, due to being tired of her leadership. As a result of these, Baby was ejected, and Funtime Freddy took control over Ennard's hive-mind consciousness, now wearing a melt Funtime Freddy-like mask and renamed it Molten Freddy. Baby, meanwhile, using spare animatronic parts along with other scrap material to repair while rebuilding herself, became Scrap Baby.

Sometime after rebuilding herself as Scrap Baby when she was ejected from Ennard's collective, she receives a call (which she assumed was her father calling out to her) to join the other animatronics at the player's pizzeria. She makes her first appearance after the pixelated "troll facade" mini game ends, sitting in front of the player. When the Cassette Man begins his audio prompt countdown, she shuts the tape off and finishes counting for him, before her eyes shift to stare at the player. She appears again after Wednesday's night shift has ended. Michael is then given the decision to either salvage or discard her. Salvaging her, along with all of the other hostile animatronics, is required to get a good/true ending. Unlike the previous game, Baby serves as an active threat to Michael. She will either attack from the office vents or while being tested for salvage.

Baby's Death

On the final shift on Saturday, Scrap Baby taunts Michael by saying they've been fooled by their employer and that she will finally achieve her purpose of creation. However, Baby is cut off by the Cassette Man, who refers to her as Elizabeth, the name of her possessor, and reveals the whole scenario to be a trap. It turns out the Cassette Man is Henry Emily, William's previous best friend and the original owner of Fazbear Entertainment, who set up this location to end the madness and put everything to rest. Scrap Baby is then incinerated with her father and the other animatronics within the pizzeria, with Elizabeth's soul being set free and put to rest.

UCN Jumpscare.

The vengeful soul of Golden Freddy forcefully kept William alive and proceeded to torture him in his nightmares, with both Circus and Scrap Baby being part of the torture. However, these are only dream versions of the characters and not the real ones.

Scrap Baby and Circus Baby both return. Scrap Baby randomly appears inside the office in a slumped position. The player must keep an eye on her while performing their other tasks. If Scrap Baby moves, the player must give her an electric shock to stop her from attacking. Circus Baby can also be a threat to the player. She will appear at a random time in the Right Hall and the only way to defend against her is to purchase a Circus Baby Plushie from the Prize Corner using Faz-Coins.

Five Nights at Freddy's: Help Wanted

A few years after Baby's death, Fazbear Entertainment made a VR game based on the horrors from decades ago, with the game including Baby. However, this version of Baby is a literal video game character, which doesn't make her possessed by any souls.

Circus Baby reappears at her own level. The player must watch Baby from a closet as she looks around a bedroom presumably trying to find them. If she spots the player, they must close the closet door to stop Baby from attacking. Opening the closet door too early or keeping it shut for too long will result in a game over.

Circus Baby is also a threat during Funtime Foxy's level in Nightmare Mode. She is one of a few animatronics wandering in the darkness and will jump on the player if she gets too close to them.

Five Nights at Freddy's AR: Special Delivery

Later, the company made the Fazbear Funtime Service, which allows customers to send animatronics to them so they can be entertained. However, due to a virus, the animatronics began to be hostile and aggressive towards customers instead. Baby is part of the Service, but she isn't possessed, as they are simply just clones recreations of the original Circus Baby.

Circus Baby appears as one of the animatronics the player can encounter and send after other players. Baby is one of the rarest and most aggressive animatronics that can be encountered in the game, usually only appearing when the player has a streak of about seven. She walks around the player and taunts them with big, heavy steps. When she haywires, the player must take extra caution not to look her in the eyes at all, or be jumpscared. She will occasionally fake charge at the player, and eventually materialize. When she materializes, the player must quickly shock her to prevent a jumpscare.

Currently, Circus Baby has two skins. The first of these is Broiler Baby (a metallic version of Circus Baby with a broiler in her stomach cavity, a small shovel, and a burning exoskeleton) which was released for the Sizzling Summer event in 2020, and the second is known as Heartsick Baby (with Circus Baby having a Cupid-inspired design with purple and black color scheme with heart patterns on her cheeks, fan, kneecaps, and shoe tips, two small wings, arrows piercing her shins, and a bow wielding heart-tipped arrows) who was released for the 2021 Valentine's Day event.

Circus Baby makes her first appearance at the end of Update 2, killing the Desk Man after the players defeat Chica's Magic Rainbow.

Novel Trilogy

Circus Baby first appears in the novel series at the end of The Twisted Ones disguised as protagonist Charlie and serves as the secondary antagonist of the final book The Fourth Closet, aiding her father in his plans.

Fazbear Frights

Main article: Eleanor (Fazbear Frights)

A variant of Baby called Eleanor appears as the main antagonist, specifically serving as the main antagonist of the short story To Be Beautiful and the second half of the Stitch wraith Stingers, as she proves to be far more dangerous and powerful than the weakened William Afton. Despite this, they have almost nothing in common besides looking similar.

Circus Baby appears in a cameo in "Dance With Me" from Book 4: Step Closer.

Trivia

• Ironically, despite being the main antagonist of Sister Location, she is the only animatronic who doesn't have a jumpscare.
  • Although she doesn't have a jumpscare in the game, she did have one in the trailer. It might have been a scrapped part of the game, or just to trick the audience. The only thing that is close enough to be a jumpscare is when she kills William's daughter in the minigame.
    • In the sixth game, she is now a proper enemy and can jumpscare you.
    • In UCN, she finally gets a jumpscare in her "Circus" form.
• She is an odd antagonist; in that she continuously helps the player as an ally throughout the game while needing you to survive before turning you into Ennard's new host.
• Circus Baby has been based on various sources:
  • Baby seems to be based on Ronald McDonald and Wendy Thomas.
  • Baby and the other animatronics might have been based on the Tsukumogami from the Japanese folklore.
• In Sister Location's minigames, Baby is shown to have blue eyes before pulling Elizabeth inside her. However, her eyes are green in the main game. This hinted at her soul possessing the Circus Baby, as Elizabeth's eyes are also green in the minigame. In Sister Location, it was unclear as to whether Baby was possessed by William's daughter, or simply acted of her own A.I. In Pizzeria Simulator, the Cassette Man (aka Henry Emily) refers to Baby as Elizabeth, confirming that she does indeed possess Circus Baby.
  • It is heavily implied that by this point, Elizabeth's personality has been affected by the robot's murderous programming, as seen by her switching between talking like a robot and a human in the same sentence. Henry even comments that she might not even remember her own name.
• Scrap Baby's design seems to include lights from Circus Control, implying that she retrieved parts from the Rentals facility.

• A girl looking identical to Baby is seen during the minigames in Five Nights at Freddy's 4. She taunts the Crying Child by telling him stories of how the animatronics at the pizzeria kill people and hide their bodies.
  • It is still unknown if the girl is Elizabeth. During the Crying Child's last moments, the voice text talking to the child becomes the same color as the girl's text, telling him that they're still friends and promising to him to "put him back together". It is heavily speculated that the girl room in the Crying Child's house, which has a broken Mangle toy in it, belongs to Elizabeth and that she is the child's sister, as Michael and the Crying Child are more or less confirmed to be William Afton's sons. Despite the similarities however, Elizabeth is shown to have blonde hair and a lighter skin color in Sister Location.
• In the Novel series, Circus Baby was created by Henry Emily. Where she originally meant to represent Charlotte Emily's adulthood stage.
• Baby, and the Bidybabs, bear a resemblance to Balloon Boy.
