Chief Clarence "Clancy" Wiggum is a supporting character in the animated television series The Simpsons. While he is a protagonist, he is shown in several episodes to be a corrupt cop who takes bribes or makes up his own laws (often on the fly), sometimes for the better, but usually for the worse.
He is voiced by Hank Azaria, who also voices Simpsons villains Herman Hermann, Jebediah Springfield, God, Kang, Mr. Largo, Les Moore, Snake Jailbird, The Grand Pumpkin, Killer Toupée, Don Vittorio D'Maggio, Johnny Tightlips, Dexter Colt, Frank Grimes, Jr., The Devil, Bob Arnold, The Leader, and Adolf Hitler, and also portrayed Gargamel in the live-action Smurfs movies, Bartok in Anastasia, Carlos in Hop, Whit in Run Fatboy Run, Venom in Spider-Man: The Animated Series, and Kahmunrah in the Night at the Museum franchise.
Personality[]
Chief Wiggum is morbidly obese, downright rude, uneducated, incompetent and lazy, with a penchant for doughnuts. While he feigns authority, he has no regard for individual rights or public safety. He is disturbingly uninformed and flaunts his power, albeit mostly with good intentions.
Despite this, there were times when Wiggum proved to be a good cop at times, showing a surprising level of competence when a shove turned into a shove. For example, he successfully located the missing Maggie Simpson and helped Homer pursue Marge and Ruth Connors when they became convicts. He demonstrated an uncharacteristic level of dedication to his police work by conducting an extremely thorough investigation and trying to find the shooter who shot Mr. Burns (probably due to Burns' high social status in the town, as well as the potential danger of an attempted murderer on the loose, even in the town as chaotic as Springfield).
