~ Claus's only line in the movie before his death. |
Claus is a minor antagonist in the 1981 James Bond film, For Your Eyes Only. He is an assassin working for Aris Kristatos and Emile Locque.
He was portrayed by Charles Dance, who also portrayed Tywin Lannister in Game of Thrones, Mr. Benedict in Last Action Hero, Sardo Numspa in The Golden Child, Alan Jonah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters, David Carlton in Ali G Indahouse, and Emhyr var Emreis in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.
History[]
Working for Aris Kristatos and Emile Locque, Claus helps Locque hunt James Bond down in Cortina, but fails to kill him due to the latter's expertise and know-how in skiing while allowing him to believe that Kristatos' archrival, Milos Columbo alias "The Dove" is his employer in order to make sure Columbo is framed and eventually eliminated for what is, in fact, Kristatos' own actual crimes, thus, allowing Kristatos to carry one with his true objective of obtaining an ATAC for the Russians in the end and possibly be awarded with another medal for his services (the first being the King's medal for his services during the war despite having been a double agent all along).
Later, in Athens, both Claus, Locque, and other assassins ambush and try to kill James Bond again on the beach early in the morning, but only manage to kill Columbo's mistress, Countess Lisl. After James deals with one of the assassins, Claus finally holds him at gunpoint and forces him to get in the car with Locque until he is suddenly killed when shot in the back with a harpoon by Columbo's men, which enables James to disarm Locque, but allow the latter to escape as well.
Trivia[]
- Claus was not only Charles Dance's first villainous role, but also his very first movie role as well.
