|~ Claus Strandberg|
Claus Hugo Strandberg is the secondary antagonist in the HITMAN mission "A Gilded Cage". He is a businessman turned con-artist, helping to cause a civil war in Morocco.
Strandberg was a banker who rose to prominence with a forged degree and a silver tongue. After stealing several billion dollars using ponzi schemes, he was caught and sentenced to life in prison. However, he was rescued by Reza Zaydan, a military general hoping to set up a civil war. Up until his death, Claus was enjoying a life of luxury, as Morocco burned,
Claus Hugo Strandberg showed signs of sociopathy at a young age, being able to use charisma to get people to trust him completely, while robbing them blind without remorse. He is ruthless, narcissistic, greedy, cruel, manipulative, and utterly unsympathetic to the victims of his schemes. He is completely willing to allow the deaths of millions to save his own skin, while taunting the people he is condemning to death. Because of his loathsome personality, almost nobody can stand him, up to and including his own daughter, whom he robbed out of her own inheritance. He is incapable of feeling sympathy for anybody but himself, and is unwilling to comprehend how his actions are ruining people's lives.
- Claus Strandberg is likely a parody of Julian Assange and Bernard Madoff (a whistleblower and Ponzi schemer, respectively.)
- Despite being one of the only targets not directly involved in murder, Strandberg is easily one of the most unsympathetic out of the targets, as his actions are likely to cause millions of deaths due to a civil war.
- If Claus was not killed by Agent 47, he was likely to have been murdered by Providence for failing to keep his end of their deal.
