Clavius is a minor antagonist from Heroes of Might and Magic III. He was a zombie death knight, one of the commanders of the undead hordes of Deyja.
Biography[]
All we know about Clavius' past is that he was born into a prominent family, they had a lot of land and power in Deyja. He was the eldest son in the family, who, like his predecessors, was sent for military service. He served willingly and well, and later became a death knight and one of the commanders of the armies of Deyja. He first appeared when he, Charna, Moander and Nimbus attacked a small area of northeastern Erathia not far from Deyja's southwestern border. However, the attack was stopped by two barbarians, Crag Hack and Yog, and defeated the undead. Clavius and the other leaders retreated. He then appeared after the new king of Deyja, Finneas Vilmar, took power with the help of his companion, Sandro. Clavius, on the other hand, may not have supported the new king, as he began to gather an army and very likely wanted to usurp the throne, as he allied with an efreet, Octavia, and an overlord, Ajit against Deyja. Vilmar sent Sandro to defeat his enemies and thus also fought against the alliance. The lich also had very powerful artifacts, the Armor of the Damned and the Cloak of the Undead King, so it was not too difficult for him to defeat Clavius and his other opponents. He later reappeared only after Deyja was finally defeated and this time he was active in the swamps of Tatalia. He helped the resurrected Lord Haart and his cult with other former commanders of Deyja to burn the swamp and kill the natives. In the end, the famous fire witch, Adrienne, defeated him. His fate after this is unknown, it is possible that he was destroyed by the witch or by the Reckoning.
Personality[]
It is certain that influence, power and control over others were important to Clavius. He didn't really like being controlled by others, he didn't recognize Finneas Vilmar as king, he even organized an army against him and fought in Tatalia in cooperation with the Lord Haart’s cult, but not as their servant. Also, like some other death knights, it is conceivable that he was selfish and only interested in his own goals, as he could fight on anyone's side just for his own power.
