Claws is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Elmer) of the 2010 Mexican animated move Guardians of the Lost Code. He is an evil, demonic Brije in the form of a raven that overall guides and commands everyone's actions.
He was voiced by Ricardo Tejedo, who also dubbed Gollum in the Lord of the Rings trilogy and Atrocitus in Injustice 2.
Biography[]
Background[]
Claws started off as a sparrow Brije living somewhere in medieval Britain with his human, who he seemed to share a bond with, sadly, he lived during the times in which humans had begun to forget about magic and dreams, that which granted the mythical creatures their power, and the boy had very much indeed chosen to pursue blacksmith and more traditional martial combat rather than his relation with Claws, which would have allowed them to synchronize into their Warrior Form.
After his assigned human abandoned him, Claw felt desperate and wandered, finding other Brijes who retained their relation with humans, in his desperation he caught the attention of The Darkness, which offered him relief and purpose in exchange for eternal servitude, thus he was turned into a raven and his lieutenant on Earth.
Over the following centuries Claw lead the armies of darkness with the intent of finding the secret of the synchronizing arts from the light and conquer Earth so it would be engulfed in Darkness. At some point he lost his left eye and found Hernan Cortez, turning him into a disciple of Darkness and continuing by his family's side for the years that followed until a chance to attain the mythical secrets presented themselves.
Guardians of the Lost Code[]
Hundreds of years later, Claws lives in a large manor belonging to wealthy aristocrat and servant of Darkness, Elmer, the two have been working tirelessly to contact Darkness once more through the Umbracameo, which activates the very moment Freddy, Kimo and Atzi (the "chosen ones") activate the Codex. When they communicate with the emissary (Or possible lady) she urges Elmer to give fully into the darkness, while the human seems resilient at first, fearing he would lose his ambitions and wishes, Claws manages to convince him.
Later on, he and Elmer go in search of the children they will use for their plans: Muty, Spikes and Zejas. Claws himself reveals the names of the three Dark Ones: Scales, Fangs and Poison. Arriving back at the manor, they activate the portal of darkness, as Elmer tries to go in, however, Claw warns him it's dangerous as he gave in his soul and therefore could end up trapped or damaged. For the rest of the story he remains an observant, basically giving orders to the children and their Brijes.
When Zejas finds the last piece to open the portal that would allow Darkness to be unleashed, Claws realizes they have been fooled and the children they were working with were the true chosen ones all along. Furious, he entices Elmer to go through the portal to get to them in time to the museum. Once there and with Elmer turned into a mindless zombie, Claws emulates the synchronization due to the presence of Darkness and fights the Chosen Ones in their warrior form, defeating the three false ones and then killing Muty.
Unleashing the Darkness upon earth, he faces the other kids once more, using his illusions to try to scare them into submission, but it's all for naught, as all humans briefly recover their Brijes, lending their power and faith, thus ending in Claw's and Elmer's defeat.
At the end, Elmer appears trapped inside the Umbacameo before Claws picks it up and flies off, showing he was still very much alive and planning his next step.
Appearance[]
Before his corruption, Claws was a small sparrow creature clad in pinkish and violet feathers with clear blue eyes. Once he was corrupted by Darkness, he was transformed into a raven, his plumage turning a bright hue of crimson and deep purple and glowing, red and black eyes. At some point Claws seems to have lost one of his eyes due to unknown circumstances, this however seems to be a common occurrence with those who align themselves with Darkness, as The Messenger herself did had a missing and Elmer too did by the end of the movie.
When he merges with Elmer into their warrior form, he appears as a larger version of himself with arms and legs aside from wings, however his very last form is that of an entirely humanoid bird with black feathers.

Personality[]
Claws started out his life as a cheerful and playful Brije, from his interactions with his human it can be deduced he genuinely cared for him and was utterly distraught and desperate when he began to turn away from him and eventually left, from here Claws would start to show his signs of evl as he was visibly envious of other Brijes and their own closeness to their humans, leading to his turn into the cruel and devious envoy of Darkness he would become.
Despite his tragic story of being abandoned, Claws himself is a selfish and callous individual, seeming to care for nobody except himself and having no problem in manipulating Elmer, whom he has served alongside with for decades and has been with his family for centuries, showing that he lacks the same kind of love that other Brijes, even the dark ones have for their humans. Unlike Elmer, who despite being evil and greedy still showed some semblance of worry about the kids when they were harmed and praised their wish for revenge in a world that had mistreated them, Claws has no such sympathy for anybody, in addition, the aristocrat himself was clearly afraid of reckless actions, which Claws encouraged, the only time he kept Elmer from going into a portal was at the start and for purely pragmatic reasons. In the same vein while Spikes and Muty both wanted revenge on the world for the constant harassment and being forced to live into poverty, Zejas who was a simple bully and thrill-seeker, and the Dark Ones: Fangs, Scales and Poison who likedly were equally abandoned and gave into Darkness themselves, they still genuinely cared for each other and acknowledged when their own deeds had gone to far and tried to right their wrongs, all of them showing sadness when Muty herself was killed or when they were harmed, Claw had no such inhibitions, willing to carry out his mission to the final consequences and had no issue murdering others to accomplish his goals.
While both Elmer and him seemed to talked through the Warrior Form, Claw was in complete control the entire time, showing physically and subtly that Elmer was nothing but a puppet to him.
All in all, Claws can be considered a cruel, sociopathic manipulator who stops at nothing to fulfill his goals, his own loyalty to Darkness aside, he was motivated solely by greed and revenge, the same as the other antagonist, but he didn't cared the same wish for companionship or to make things better into his later life, showing he had truly nothing inside and whatever he used to be was truly gone.
