Clotho Buer is an antagonist in Mobile Suit Gundam SEED.
Background[]
Clotho is one of the three "Biological CPUs" assigned to operate one of the Earth Alliance's new Gundam mobile suits, GAT-X370 Raider. Not much about his past is known about him, as his personal data has been erased from the military's records.
Personality[]
Clotho is a rather talkative and argumentative person who constantly argues with his teammates. He also likes to shout out video game-inspired battle cries as he fights in his Raider Gundam. He spends his time between missions playing on a portable gaming system to hone his shooting skills. Clotho seems rather psychotic, but mostly very proud, when in battle. He shows a complete lack of restraint or self-preservation, as shown whenever he would recklessly almost friendly fire at his teammates and when he suffered from withdrawal during his final moments after the battle with Dearka and Yzak.
History[]
First Alliance-PLANT War[]
He and his teammates, Orga Sabnak and Shani Andras, would be first deployed to attack the neutral Orb Union. Prior to heading out, his team was prompted by Muruta Azrael, their superior and defacto leader of the Earth Forces, to avoid causing damage to the Mass Driver and Morgenroete. First, he and Orga would together target the former Atlantic Federation's Archangel, but missed. After Orga disembarked Clotho's Raider, Clotho would attempted his own second attack on the rogue Earth Forces ship, only to get intercepted by Kira and his Freedom Gundam. He and Shani would engage Kira, albeit unable too completely cooperate by some degree. Right when he was about to deliver the final blow, Athrun, who was watching from the sideline, intervenes, shielding Kira from the powerful shot. Clotho gets annoyed by Athrun's unexpected intervention. The three Biological CPUs engage the duo for some time, all the while even at some points friendly firing at each other out of annoyance. Eventually, the time of their performance enhancing drugs wear out, suffering from withdrawal during their retreat. Because of their failure, Muruta had his underlings who worked with the Biological CPUs punished the three by letting them suffer the symptoms before receiving another dose.
In the second attack, the trio would overwhelm Kira, until Athrun came in again. The trio still had difficulty, even with the new enhancements. When Orga's Calamity runs out of power, Clotho insults Orga, telling him to leave if he wants and that he was on his own. Clotho ended up having to retreat too after Athrun sliced the Raider's mace, and Orga would then return the favor by insulting him back and boarding the Raider in its Mobile Armor form without Clotho's permission.
They were given the same punishment as a result of their second failure. The Archangel and the Kusanagi would run their plan by the time of the trio's return. Kira and Athrun briefly held off the trio before clinging onto the Kusanagi and firing one last shot to make their escape, followed by the self destruction of the Mass Driver.
The Battle of Mendel Colony[]
To be added
The Battle of Boaz[]
Clotho and his team would participate in the attack on ZAFT's space fortress Boaz. When the Peacemaker Force proceeds, he and his team cover them from the ZAFT defenders, until the nuclear missiles destroy the base. He and his teammates enjoy the sight of the explosions.
Operation Peacemaker[]
Following the fight at Boaz, the trio move on to aid in Operation Peacemaker.. He takes out some units and then engages Yzak Joule and his Duel Gundam, while the other two eliminate members of the Joule Team trying to stop the missile carrying Moebiuses heading for the PLANTs. Eventually, Kira and Athrun arrive to stop the missiles themselves, followed by Lacus trying to reason with the Earth Forces.
Clotho and his team would witness in shock when ZAFT returns fire with GENESIS, enraged at the attempt on their homeland.
Second Battle of Jachin Due[]
His team would be deployed to engage the ZAFT forces near Jachin Due, and he also engages Kira and Athrun when they stop the nuclear attack a second time. He and Athrun briefly converse about why and what they were fighting for.
Death[]
His death is portrayed differently in the TV series/HD Remaster and the Special Edition.
In the TV series/HD Remaster, after the death of the two other Biological CPUs, Shani Andras and Orga Sabnak, Clotho's mental stability begins to deteriorate and feels the withdrawal symptoms. He still fights even in spite of the Raider being depleted. He attacked Yzak in his Duel and the injured Dearka in his damaged Buster. Clotho destroys the Duel's beam rifle in the process Yzak was trying to counterattack with Duel's with it. He would keep pressing the barrage on Yzak, until Yzak then borrowed the Buster's rifle to replace the Duel's destroyed beam rifle, while Clotho charges the Raider's "Zorn" 100mm energy cannon. Both pilots fire at each other simultaneously; while Clotho's shot only caused minor damage to the Duel, Yzak's shot would hit the Raider's cockpit, destroying the Raider and killing Clotho in the process.
In the Special Edition, Clotho is killed by Dearka immediately after Orga's death.
Second Alliance-PLANT War[]
While he does not make an appearance, his remaining data file does show up in the ruined Lodonia Lab.
