~ Clyde luring in a father by impersonating his son. |
Clyde, better known as The Eastridge Demon or the The Smiling Snatcher, is the secondary antagonist of the analog horror web series Dreams of an Insomniac.
It is a part of a race of supernatural creatures known as Veldigun, and has been known to kidnap and kill people (typically children in Vol. 0) as well as cause hallucinations and horrific abnormalities to those who come in contact with it.
It is portrayed by the series' creator Zachary Gignac, AKA Pastra, who also voiced the cartoon version of Herbert Lankmann in the same series, as well as Lankmann's Original Rendition from their YouTube channel ARG.
Appearance[]
Clyde has the appearance of someone wearing a unbranded orange hooded prison jumpsuit costume with striped sleeves. He has black skin as well as thin, slit-pupil eyes and thin teeth, both glowing a shade of bright yellow. Coming out of the sides of his head are two black and yellow-striped horns, one larger than the other. He has long, black, clawed fingers and long, black and yellow-striped clawed toes. He has a long, black and yellow tail with black spikes running along the black segments. According to artwork done by Pastra, Clyde also possesses a forked, black and yellow-striped tongue and a mass of black and yellow-striped tendrils hidden underneath his jumpsuit.
History[]
Vol. 0 - Haunted Halloween PSA[]
Clyde breaks into a local costume store named Grimmso's and steals an orange prison jumpsuit costume, and it then begins its killing spree, kidnapping and killing 6 children. A police officer named Kenneth Kruger later ends up coming into contact with Clyde, gaining horrific deformities as a result of the encounter, including discoloration of the skin, severe weight loss, tightening of the skin, and bleeding from every orifice.
The Lankmann foundation is quick to notice this, and creates a guide for residents of Eastridge County to help them survive Clyde's attacks. Things in the guide include remembering it's mandatory curfew, and ignoring any pleas for help past said curfew, since it may be Clyde luring out potential victims.
Family Photo Album[]
At the beginning of the tape, it is revealed that the Lankmann Foundation has found a video, which records a sighting of Clyde. The video itself shows Clyde chasing an unnamed father into his house. The father tried to contact the police, before ultimately being manipulated to come out by Clyde impersonating his child and wearing their ghost costume.
After this, Kenneth Kruger, who either hadn't encountered Clyde yet, or had just days before, finds a family photo album inside the empty home, but it seems as though the faces of the people in the photo album were heavily tampered with.
Initially, people theorized that Clyde had the ability to erase people from existence, however, newer theories suggest that the death was covered up by the Lankmann Foundation.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Hallucinations: Clyde can cause both visual and auditory hallucinations to anyone in its vicinity.
- Voice Mimicry: Clyde can mimic the voices of those it hears. It mainly uses this as a way to lure more victims into its grasp. Usually Clyde impersonates a child's voice to manipulate said child's parents to come to it.
- Disfigurement: Clyde can horribly mutilate and disfigure those who come into contact with it, regardless of whether they escape or not.
Trivia[]
- Clyde is confirmed by Pastra to be non-binary and uses it/its pronouns.
- Its voice actor, Zachary Gignac is also non-binary.
- Despite being its canonical name, the Smiling Snatcher has not yet been referred to as "Clyde" in the series proper.
