Coach John McGuirk is one of the villainous main protagonists of the Adult Swim animated sitcom Home Movies. He is usually the closest thing to a recurring villain in the series due to his recklessness and behavior.
He was voiced by H. Jon Benjamin.
Personality[]
Coach McGuirk is a lonely, overweight, dim-witted man who works as a soccer coach. He is drunk about half of the time during his work, gives Brendon awful advice, and usually make poor choices regarding the soccer team. However he stays sober in certain events that either benefit him or are important.
McGuirk is somewhat of a slob, driving a car with the passenger seat's leg area being filled with garbage. He also has a blowup sex doll he has standing up against a wall. It was also revealed in an Adult Swim bumper that he heavily enjoys watching porn on the internet.
Coach McGuirk is very mean and short-tempered as his job, yelling at his students whenever they messed up, especially Melissa. He also tends to send his students to go someplace else that isn't the school, like sending Brendon to the store during school hours.
Coach McGuirk doesn't have any accountability when it comes to his friends, often putting others in trouble due to his stupidity and bad advice or when he can use someone to gain something he wants. An example of this was when a student got caught with a video camera recording another student's mom, which they recorded her because McGuirk requested for the footage, only to try to post it on the internet in a attempt to make him rich.
McGuirk is often trying to portray himself as fatherly figure to Brendon Small, the main protagonist of the series, one of the reasons why he does this is so he can have a chance at getting into a relationship with Brendon's mother, Paula.
Appearance[]
Coach McGuirk is an overweight man with messy, straight, dirty-blond hair with thick bushy eyebrows. He wears a red jacket with red pants, red shoes and a blue whistle necklace around his neck.
He is 8'2" in the episode "Broken Dreams", having a hairy chest and several tattoos on his body, including a cow.
In the episode "Class Trip", an electric shock revealed a metal plate on the right side of his head.

- Coach McGuirk stated that he served in the Gulf War, but it is unknown whether this was just a lie just to get a managers's position.
- Coach McGuirk went to jail and rehab several times.
