|~ Colin Frater preparing to fight Master Law|
Colin Frater is the secondary antagonist of the live action movie Ip Man 4: The Finale. He is a US Marine Corps karate instructor.
He was portrayed by actor and martial artist Chris Collins.
Colin Frater first appears training the marine corps until Hartman, a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marines, attempts to convince Barton Geddes, the Gunnery Sergeant, to incorporate Chinese martial arts into their hand-to-hand combat training. Geddes agrees to do so if Hartman can beat Colin in a fight, but Colin easily manages to defeat Hartman.
Hartman later manages to convince the Commanding Officer to do the same and is instructed to film the Mid-Autumn Festival for research, which upsets Geddes. Geddes tells Frater about the situation and tells him to challenge all of the Chinese martial artists at the Festival, defeating Masters Law, Chiu & Chiang until Ip interferes and beats him up badly.
Colin was last seen injured & laying in the Marine Corps' hospital bed because of a broken rib while his ally stormed off, seeking vengance.
Frater, like his friend, Barton Geddes, share the same overly proud and openly racist behaviors against the Chinese-Americans living in San Francisco. And like Geddes; he too believes that Karate is superior to Chinese martial arts, and when asked by Geddes to go to Chinatown and openly challenge the Chinese martial artists there, he is happy to oblige. He is extremely confident and proud of his Karate skills, repeatedly taunting Chinese martial artists with racial and xenophobic slurs. Having defeated Hartman and even three Chinese martial arts masters, he arrogantly challenges Ip Man to a fight, only to be badly beaten and defeated with relative ease.
