Colonel Percy Granite is a character from the Sonic the Comic comic book series, and the main antagonist of the "Earth Attacks" story. He is a member of the British military who was the head of Operation Starwatch, an agency meant to defend the Earth from extraterrestrial threats. After encountering alien life, however, Granite quickly began utilizing aggressive measures and using the agency for his own benefit.
Biography[]
For some time, Granite was leading Operation Starwatch, a British government agency tasked with searching for alien life. One day, two residents of the planet Mobius, Amy Rose and Tekno the Canary, crash-landed on Earth. When informed of their presence, Granite immediately suspected them of being scouts for an invasion force. The two were apprehened as they sought help from Professor Cratermass to return to their homeworld, and brough before the colonel, who further accused the girls of trying to bring the aliens to Earth. Amy and Tekno escaped and managed to return to Mobius, but not without rendering the teleporting gateway obsolete, preventing Granite's forces from following them.
Operation Starwatch developed a time machine, which Percy Granite used to invade the XIX century United States, intending to conquer the entire Earth in the past, but was foiled by Amy and Tekno. Granite was sent back into the present, but, having obtained coordinates of Mobius, swore vengeance and made plans to invade that planet next.
On New Year 1999, Operation Starwatch commenced its invasion of Mobius. With superior manpower and weaponry, Granite's soldiers caught the Freedom Fighters by surprise and pushed them back. Colonel Granite voiced his intentions of taking over all of Mobius, renaming it "Planet Percy" after himself, and selling off the conquered lands to willing bidders. Sonic used the Starwatch portal to escaped to the Earth and clogged it in the process. There, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom was informed by him of Granite's operations. With Sonic back on Mobius, a storm suddenly broke out, as if nature itself was fighting back, and a tornado sucked the colonel and his soldiers in, dumping them into the portal back to Earth. There, Granite was arrested by the military police for his actions. Granite's fate following his defeat is unknown.
Personality[]
Granite is a paranoid man, believing all extraterrestrial life to be hostile and a threat to humanity, even though he had no credible evidence to believe it. Ironically, this belief proves him to be a hypocrite, as he was eager to invade Earth in a much more vurnerable state to rule it himself, and attacked Mobius first, becoming an alien invader himself. He thinks low of Mobians, referring to them as "mutants" and not hesitating to threaten them with extermination or destroy their natural habitat with pollution.
