~ de Sade when the Punisher covers him in barbed wire. |
Colonel de Sade is a two-shot antagonist who appears in Marvel Comics' The Punisher Summer Special. He is known mostly due to his grotesque penchant for torturing women, and the Punisher outright believes him to be the descendant of Marquis himself.
Biography[]
de Sade was a former colonel who served with Frank Castle during the Vietnam War. While interrogating some prisoners, de Sade skinned a Viet Cong woman alive in the tradition of his namesake, which led to his discharge from the military as he was then sent to an asylum.
In the present day, Frank spots de Sade mysteriously released from said asylum and going to a secret policeman's fair, buying leg irons, a barbed wire projector, a straightjacket, Ferret® barricade-penetrating rounds, and an electric shock-prod. Afterwards, de Sade and his gang of mooks rob a bank, where de Sade traumatizes a female hostage by giving her a haircut with his knife. As the woman fainted, de Sade was about to use his knife to go to work on her face next, but fortunately the cops started closing in on the bank before had enough time to do so. As de Sade and his gang escape the cops from within their riot tank (disguised as a bank security van), the Punisher stows himself away atop the van, which de Sade responds by shooting him in the head and knocking him unconscious with 11,000 watts of electricity, a water hose and rubber bullets. de Sade then takes the Punisher to his hideout, torturing him with more water and electricity until the latter finally breaks free. After killing his henchmen, the Punisher covers de Sade in barbed wire and leaves him to die when the gasoline spill is ignited by an exposed electrical panel, much to de Sade's visible pleasure.
Later on, it's revealed that the cops somehow managed to carry de Sade out of the burning wreckage in time before he succumbed to his injuries, and then he went to prison. Some months later, however, he escaped prison and used his dual whips to strike sensitive nerve points and kill him quickly on camera. From that point on, de Sade got involved with the snuff movie trade, eventually sending the Punisher one of countless videos of him chasing a random woman and torturing her to death with a knife. After saving some girls auditioned as exotic dancers promised to be well-paid for touring South America, the Punisher goes to de Sade's secret movie studio to save more girls with nothing but knives, not wanting to set off any of the gasoline there.
Mere moments before the Punisher attacks the studio, de Sade puts his own assistant and girlfriend Alison in one of his snuff films just because he ran out of extras, having her squashed flat by a storage container. As the Punisher starts killing off his henchman, de Sade tries to distract the vigilante by putting two of the captured women into deathtraps. After saving one girl from getting run over by a train and another from drowning in grain, the Punisher finally kills de Sade for good by impaling him with a forklift and then igniting the gasoline spill himself with a single bullet, thus blowing him up.
