He explains to the player character that he disagrees with the old Team Plasma's ambitions to liberate Pokémon from the grasps of humans. He is instantly encountered again on Route 4. He helps the player character proceed by moving a group of Crustle that were blocking the path. He then challenges the player character to a battle for the first time.
Colress is again seen in the Pokémon World Tournament in Driftveil City. He is the final opponent.
Later on, the player character encounters him again on Route 22. He talks to the player character mostly about Team Plasma and gives the player character the Colress Machine.
After the player character fights their way through the Plasma Frigate, Colress is encountered again in his chamber on the ship. Much to the player character's disbelief, Colress reveals that he sided with Team Neo Plasma to help with his research on bringing forth the full power of Pokémon. He then challenges the player character to another battle. When he is defeated, he applauds the player character's determination and allows entrance to Ghetsis's quarters on the ship.
When the player character enters Ghetsis's chamber, he reveals that Colress is the boss of Team Plasma. He rants about his defeat.
Colress remains on the Plasma Frigate even after the player character defeats the Elite Four and the Champion. He can be rebattled once per day, and he will give the player character a Master Ball after the first rematch. After he is rebattled the first time, he can be found on the helm of the frigate.
Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon[]
Colress visits the Alola region. Commenting how great it looks, Colress gives the player character a TM containing Flame Charge and, after the player character becomes the champion, he'll meet them on Route 8 and gives the Genesect Drives. He can also be fought in the Battle Tree.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon[]
Like Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, Colress also stays in the Alola region, though his role is expanded. The player character can first encounter him in Tide Song Hotel, though he is seen to be engrossed in talking to himself and therefore doesn't notice the player character. He is revealed to be an acquaintance of the Ultra Recon Squad that they have reached out to ask for help with Necrozma. He has invented the N-Solarizer and the N-Lunarizer based on his experience with Kyurem which is a fusion Pokémon in response to their request. After witnessing Necrozma's capture in the player character's hands on Mount Lanakila, he gives both devices to them.
During the Team Rainbow Rocket incident, Wicke contacts Colress and asks him to enlist the player character and Lillie, who are trying to defeat the bosses of the evil organization by transporting the bosses back to their respective universes. He doesn't reveal his presence to Lillie and the player character due to using an invisibility device, and only reveals himself to help the player character save Lillie when an alternate world Ghetsis holds Lillie hostage. He still deeply opposes Ghetsis and declares his hatred to his former boss, although he knows that the Ghetsis in front of him is only a counterpart. He then dispatches Ghetsis with a prototype device named "Colress Machine No. 1102", allowing the player character and Lillie to work their way up to rescue Lusamine and defeat Giovanni while he works to figure out a way to untangle the dimensions that are tangled to create the castle of Team Rainbow Rocket and restore the mansion back to normal. He successfully manages to revert and restore the mansion by the time the player character defeats Giovanni.
Pokémon Masters[]
In Pokémon Masters, Colress makes an appearance as one of the game's many obtainable sync pairs, being introduced alongside the game's Unova-themed chapter of its second story arc. In particular, Colress's sync pair has him be of the five-star rank, using a Klinklang representing the Steel-type.
For story appearances, Colress makes an appearance as a minor character within an interlude between the game's second story arc, helping Looker research sync stones on the island of Pasio. He is first seen offering his services to a frustrated Paulo in an attempt to enhance the strength of his Rockruff. He also comments on the nature of humanity's relationship with Pokémon as a whole, noting of the ways in how evil trainers are able to use Pokémon for evil deeds and the connections humanity has with each other. Venturing with Paulo and Tina, he eventually reports his findings to Lear before leaving with the heroes upon hearing a report of Team Rocket causing trouble in the city.
Following this, Colress makes his first significant appearance in the second story arc's Unova-themed chapter, informing the group of Hugh intercepting a group of Team Plasma's members out of a continued desire for revenge. Left to lament his friend's disappearance, Colress later joins the protagonists of the Unova games in their quest to find Hugh. As they journey off, however, Colress picks up the signal for a Genesect N and Hugh helped release from Team Plasma's grasp, making a detour to a nearby Pokémon Center in order to calm its nerves. There, they ultimately use the Genesect in order to find N and Hugh, with with the female trainers attacking the grunts' guarding their hidden base as the other trainers make their way inside. In a further chamber of the mountainside fort, he and his allies are attacked by the Shadow Triad and their army of Bisharp, who duel the scientist after he reveals his abandonment of Team Plasma. Defeating the ninjas due to their superior numbers and firepower (via Genesect), Colress and his allies march on into the fortress, only to be stopped once more by the Shadow Triad. While the group succeeds in defeating their Pokémon, their quest is saved through Genesect, who blasts a hole into a nearby wall for the heroes to use as a passageway. Emerging to where N and Hugh are facing against Ghetsis, the heroes are able to use a newly fused, more noble Kyurem to defeat their enemies. With the heroes returning to relative piece, Colress remarks over the power the bonds people make have, noting of their ability of being a worthy tool against Team Plasma's machinations.
Anime[]
Colress debuted in BW112. He was conducting his research of controlling wild Pokémon with special sonic waves at an abandoned facility. When Ash, his friends, and Looker showed up, he released his mind-controlled Pokémon on them. He was so impressed by their Pokémon's powers, that he planted one of his controlling devices on Pikachu, forcing it to fight its master. Ash didn't accept this, and encouraged Pikachu fight against the power that controlled him, eventually causing the device to break and free Pikachu, making Colress even more impressed. Team Rocket then showed up, using one of their miniature robots to steal Colress's research data from his computer before quickly reciting their motto and making a quick escape with their balloon. Seeing that the mind-controlled Pokémon were now freed, Colress and the Plasma Grunts he had had with him retreated and destroyed the place with a self-destruct mechanism to get rid of all possible evidence.
Colress appeared briefly in BW118 with Angie, discussing Team Plasma's plans with Ghetsis on a phone call.
Colress appeared again in BW119. Team Rocket invaded his newest laboratory and drew his security - consisting of Angie, Brad and some other Plasma Grunts - into a trap in the woods. Once Colress was alone, Meowth approached him and attempted to convince him to join Team Rocket. Colress refused, but offered to allow Meowth to participate in an experiment to increase his strength. Meowth agreed, having undergone training to resist the mind control device. However, Colress still managed to take control of Meowth, and ordered him to attack Jessie and James. Using Frillish and Amoonguss, they managed to snap him out of it before escaping. Later, Colress was seen with his Grunts reporting to Ghetsis, who revealed information about the Light Stone to them.
In BW120, Colress appeared with the rest of Team Plasma to commence their operation at the White Ruins. While Angie, Brad and many other Grunts ambushed the workers at the site, Colress used his perfected machine to seize control of the workers' Pokémon and turn them on their Trainers. In BW121, he also took control of Pikachu again, forcing N to surrender the Light Stone to Team Plasma in exchange for Ash's safety. He is set to appear in BW122, aiding Ghetsis in taking control of Reshiram. When Ash and Pikachu tried to stop him, he used his machine on Pikachu yet again. However, this time Pikachu was able to fight against its controller, and, together with Reshiram, destroyed Colress's machine once and for all, thus freeing the controlled Pokémon. Later Colress and the other Team Plasma members was arrested by Looker, thus bringing the team down.
Colress is portrayed in a more sinister light in the anime, where he is a willing henchman of Ghetsis, whereas in the games he does not agree with some of Ghetsis' actions.
Pokémon Adventures[]
Colress appears as an antagonist working with Team Plasma to help them with their goal of convincing people to liberate their Pokémon. He first appears as a competitor of the Unova Pokémon League disguised as a cloaked man named Hood Man. He managed to sneak in without having earned any of the eight Unova Gym Badges. After battling his way through Victory Road, he eventually makes it to the top 8. In the quarterfinal match, he is paired up against Marlon as his opponent. Although Marlon manages to disable his Beheeyem's moves, Colress manages to come out on top and advance to the next round.
After the events of the League had ended, he talks to Ghetsis, who thanks him for his assistance to Team Plasma's goal. Although Ghetsis expresses a desire to work with him again, Colress only agrees as long as it doesn't impede his research.
Two years later, he attacks Aspertia City for a test run of Genesect's abilities. There, he encounters Blake and Looker, who happened to be in the area. Blake attempts to capture Genesect, as he noticed that Colress was controlling with a machine, and it must still be a wild Pokémon. After a long battle, Blake succeeds in capturing Genesect with the help of his Dewott. Defeated, Colress commends Blake's strength and leaves, but not before revealing that he has become the new leader of Team Plasma. Before disappearing, he tells the two to get the full details from Ghetsis.
