Combalona Maledorich Nanno Consano is one of the two main antagonists of Lupin III: The Hemingway Papers alongside President Carlos.
Biography[]
Ten years ago, Carlos and Consano were among hundreds of treasure hunters who came to Corcaca Island as partners, becoming leaders of a treasure hunting team and taking control of the island. When the Scorpion Liberation Front was formed three years later, they have slaughtered all but Maria and destroyed their village. The surviving natives were forced to build a village in the north and live quietly. After they have had a fallout over the treasures, the duo have been at war with each other for years.
After being asked by Maria to leave her bar, Lupin stumbles across an army of bikers driving by with their leader Consano riding alongside him. Lupin notices Jigen amongst Consano's men and when he asks, Jigen tells him he can learn the whole story later. Later, Carlos is notified of Consano arriving with 750 troops who have approached 70 miles away from the front of his (Carlos's) pad. When the enemy positions themselves to attack, Consano orders Carlos to leave the island and hand over his empire. Carlos refutes this, claiming he has superior weaponry and troops and must leave the island. This claim gets refuted when Consano's vehicle turns out to have a bullet-proof windshield.
When Carlos threatens to have Consano and his army nuked, but Consano reveals he is ready to fire dozens of missiles. When Consano reveals he has an ace of spades in the form of Jigen, the latter proceeds to shoot out the lenses of Carlos's snipers' rifles. Afterwards, Carlos reveals his own ace as Goemon Ishikawa who proceeds to cut through Consano's forces. When Jigen does not shoot Goemon immediatley, Consano starts demanding him to shoot. But both pass out. Later, Lopez notifies Carlos of a plane landing on the island. Carlos tunes in to learn where one of Consano's secret runways where the plane flew in was. He also learns that Marces was riding it to aid Consano.
Later, when he talks with Marces at his base, Maria tries to assassinate the rebel leader when two men catch her in the attempt of doing so. Their attempt to rape her is thwarted when they get incapicitated by Lupin. Soon, Consano drinks with Marces while playing chess with him, talking about how Carlos will be shocked to hear that there are more tanks with Marces offering even more, knowing that Consano seeks to become the new president of the island. Marces mentions Carlos's private art Museum containing a huge collection and asks Consano to hand it over once he becomes president. Once Marces loses another chess game to Consano, the latter asks they'd confess what they were really after. Consano suspects that Marces was after the box containing the Hemingway papers which was in Carlos's collection and also desired the treasures. Just then, Fujiko overhears them when Marces admits he does not have the key and defects to Lupin while disguised as a soldier.
Once Mash and Marces recover the box from Lupin and Fujiko, Consano reveals that Mash now works for him as Marces's contract with him expired. When Marces tries to make business with Carlos, Consano has Mash shoot him to death. Shortly after, Carlos opens up a live debate between himself and Consano with the latter proclaiming himself the new leader as he holds the chest holding the Hemingway Papers and asks him to team up with him again with Consano seeking 90% of the fortune. Carlos asks Consano if he forgot that the former had more power in the old days. Carlos instead demands to have 60% with Consano getting 40%. However, Consano points out that they might end up wiping eachother out, yet Carlos states a hundred of his men were killed and 103 of Consano's men dead as well. At this rate, Consano's side is likely to survive. The situation escalates as the argument was continuing with Carlos lamenting that they used to sleep on the streets. After Lopez whispers something to him, Carlos asks Consano if he wants to duke it out in choosing 9:1 and 6:4 by using their powerful cards.
It has been decided to have Goemon and Jigen kill one or another at the Yi Plain construction site at dawn. When the fight is about to begin, Consano walks up to Crazy Mash as they watch the pending fight. When Jigen loses his balance and grips on the girder, Consano is mortified that Jigen is going to lose. However, Goemon betrays Carlos by cutting the girder to save himself and Jigen from certain death. Furious at this betrayal, Carlos and Consano order their men to open fire on the duo. Lupin, Fujiko, and Maria arrive just in time to save the two men by using construction vehicles. Following this ordeal, Carlos and Consano resume their partnership and examine the Hemingway Papers with Consano demanding 80% with Carlos reluctantly going with 20%.
When Carlos and Consano examine the papers, they find that Hemingway himself went on a trip with a friend to seek the treasure of Corcaca Island around the time he served the army during WWI. On the island laid a massive treasure-made palace and Hemingway felt this would be his final trip in his life. The trip on the island involved a forest with no paved road and climbing down a sheer cliff underground. They then descended into a motherly worm, also known as a cave. When they've reached the palace, the scenery was found to be breathtaking and appropriate for their last trip, but Hemingway's friend passed away on day 4, after the next three days there, Hemingway returned to Idaho to turn his experience into a novel.
Following this analysis, Carlos and Consano march with their armies to the location of the treasure mentioned by the Hemingway Papers which turned out to be underneath the valley of death. Along the way towards the valley, Consano demonstrates excitement for the treasures as the first one to find it will be set for life with Carlos asking if he should be making a promise like that at this point in the story. But Consano tells him it does not cost anything to promise.
When it starts to rain, the southern valley became the valley of death. When Rivera spots Lupin and company, Carlos and Consano's army take action with both leaders watching and giving orders to fire at the four protagonists. Soon after, a flood triggered by the rain claims many lives on both armies, including Carlos and Consano.
