Biography[]
Cheng served in the Chinese Military as a Commander and was in charge of the Chinese People's Armed Police Force who were stationed in Shanghai, China. In 2005, Lex Luthor hired Cheng to keep track of Jason Teague who arrived in China with a map that lead to one of the three Stones of Power. Lex had followed Jason to China as well to secretly search for one of the mysterious Kryptonian crystals.
In Shanghai, the local police, under Cheng's orders, chased Lex and Jason, who ended up getting arrested when they were cornered in an alley. Jason and Lex were tossed into a cell underneath the very temple that the map depicted where the stone was. Lex was dragged away by the guards, leaving Jason alone.
Lex had returned and was thrown back into the cell with signs that he was beaten. When Jason was hauled away for interrogation, Lex told him to just give up the information and save himself. Once Jason was gone, Lex turned to the guard and reminds him not to harm Jason when they interrogate him for the information, only to scare him, revealing that Lex had originally set up the arrest.
However, the leader of the squadron, Cheng, arrived and told Lex that he couldn't ensure the safety of either of them anymore because someone else has paid him quite a lot more money for information that both Lex and Jason knew and this someone had no qualms about using torture to get the information. It was either Lionel Luthor or Genevieve Teague who paid Cheng more money to discover the stone's location. Cheng had his soldiers escort Lex back to the dungeons. Clark Kent and Lana Lang arrived in Shanghai with Lionel's contact, Professor Sen, who leads them to the sacred temple.
While Clark stayed to investigate the throne room, Lana and Professor Sen searched a different part of the temple. While investigating, soldiers immediately entered the temple and killed Professor Sen. When one of them saw Lana's tattoo, they capture her instead of killing her. Cheng had his soldiers torture Jason and Lex through electrocution for information about the Stone's location.
Unwilling to divulge anything, the soldiers brought in Lana and chain her to a chair. Jason begs that she doesn't know anything but Cheng started shocking her in hopes that either Jason or Lex will give in to save her. However, much to the shock of the guards, the pain unleashed the witch Countess Margaret Isobel Thoreaux within Lana, who electrocuted them and broke free with a Latin spell. She then blasted Commander Cheng and his comrade away with magic, killing them.
