Commander Liebert is the secondary antagonist of the anime movie Doraemon: Nobita Drifts in the Universe. He is the father of Lian and the commander of the Mothership's military forces, seeking Earth as a new planet for the Gaians to inhabit even if it means forcefully taking it from its inhabitants. In truth however, he has been brainwashed by his advisor Moa into starting the invasion, and is eventually freed when realizing his love for Lian.
He was voiced by the late Kinryū Arimoto.
Biography[]
Liebert was originally an ordinary soldier of the Mothership's military forces. Together with an unnamed woman, he had a son named Lian. He would then rise to the rank of the commander. Some time later, his wife passed away, much to his grief. Just then the mysterious being known as Moa appeared before him, drawn by his sorrow and exploited it in a bid to hypnotize him along with his troops into becoming his puppets while acting as Liebert's advisor.
Upon learning that Lian and his friends are going to explore Earth for adventure, Moa sends the fairy Freya to spy on them while acting as their new friend. When the main protagonists join Lian's crew, Moa orders Freya to breaks down Lian's spaceship so they would be stuck on a hallucinating planet forever. After they escapes, the ship is attacked by many 'live meteors' until Liebert's ships rescue it. Upon meeting the heroes, Moa reveals that Freya has spied on them under his orders all along, and Liebert reveals his plan to invade Earth before Moa has them imprisoned. However, they escape the prison and are aided by a changed Freya, who then joins them as their new friend for real.
Due to this, Moa accelerates the invasion on Earth and forces Liebert to follow his advice. The main protagonists would then aid Lian in fighting against Moa's forces, forcing him to activate his spacecraft's main spaceship. Thinking that he has crushed the heroes, Moa celebrates right before Nobita, Doraemon, Lian and Freya confront him and convince Liebert to free himself from Moa's control. Moa hypnotizes Lian into thinking that he's his mother, but Nobita's magical fruit snaps him out of it. Moa then orders Liebert to shoot Lian, but the Commander, having snapped out of the devilish advisor's hypnotization, shoots Moa instead, causing him to fall into the ground below and seemingly dead.
Liebert then reunites with his son, but the Mothership is about to crash into Moa's fortress thanks to Moa's actions. Thankfully, the protagonists manage to stop it, saving the Gaians. Liebert and the spirit of his wife would then join Lian to listen to Mazura's speech about the Gaians' vow of how they must not invade planets of others.

Trivia[]
- Since the film was inspired by Star Wars, Liebert was inspired by Darth Vader as they're both villainous commanders who turn out to be the father of one of the main characters, who they convince to join them, and initially seem like the main antagonist until it's revealed that they're manipulated by the true main villains.
