What If it's time for me to get my revenge?!
~ Commander Zarck vowing revenge on Team One.

Commander Zarck is the main antagonist in the 2020 adult comedy series Solar Opposites. He was the original leader of Shlorpian Team One until he used a What If?! Machine to erase himself from his team's memories and make Korvo the leader.

He was voiced by Dan Bakkedahl.

History[]

The original captain of Team One, Commander Zarck led the Solar Opposites through space to find a suitable planet for The Pupa to terraform. However, he grew angry when Korvo tried to take their ship on an alternate route. Korvo claimed that his route was better, which Zarck denied. The team continued to argue with Zarck, leading to Korvo claiming he would make a better leader Zarck told him that the team would be completely lost without his guidance; to prove his point, Zarck then used the What If?! Machine, a device capable of altering the timeline, to make it so that he was ejected into space with the rest of the team having no memory of him.

Unaltered Timeline[]

In the unaltered timeline, the one where the What If?! machine was never used, the team continued on Zarck's route, eventually leading them to Earth. The other members wanted to have fun and embrace human culture, but Zarck insisted that the Shlorpian way was the only way to live. Zarck's teammates lived a depressing but successful mission, using the Pupa to transform Earth into a new home, killing everyone on the planet, including themselves, in the process.

Altered Timeline[]

In the timeline where he used the What If?! Machine, Zarck was ejected into space on an escape pod with the Solar Opposites having no memory of him, just like he said. For years he was stranded on an asteroid, desperately hoping to get revenge on his former team.

Zarck had a stroke of luck when he picked up a signal coming from the Opposites. Using his escape pod, he traveled to Earth, where he landed on the giant Yumyulack head that Korvo accidentally created. He gloated about his plan then quickly realized that he had no apparent way of actually getting to Earth, suggesting his escape pod may have ran out of fuel.

Personality[]

In typical Shlorpian fashion, Zarck cares deeply about Shlorpian culture to the point of rejecting anything that isn't Shlorpian in nature. While he claims that a leader needs to have a balance between goofing off and being script, all this proves is that he's a hypocrite. In actuality, Zarck is one of the most strict Shlorpians seen in the show. Zarck does act kind towards the Pupa, though it's debatable if he actually cares about him or if he's just using the Pupa for the mission.

Zarck is quite arrogant and egotistical, using a dangerous advice that could alter reality just to prove that he's a better leader than Korvo. He's also extremely vengeful, as he still wanted to take back his mission from Korvo years later. Due to his arrogance, Zarck is a bit dim and doesn't always think his plans through, which can cause issues.

Appearance[]

Described as being a "chad" by Terry, Commander Zarck is a tall and muscular Shlorpian with an accented jawline. His skin is a lavender color, and he has some dark purple spots on his scalp. He has three small, off-white eyes that bulge out of his head. Like most Shlorpians, Commander Zarck wears a long black robe with an accented collar. After being stranded in space, Zarck now has a long grey beard, and the sleeves of his robe have been ripped off.

Trivia[]

  • It is unclear as to why Zarck was part of the team, since all other Shlorpian teams only had four members. However, it may have something to do with the fact that they are designated as 1st team. It's also possible that Zarck simply wanted to personally oversee one of the Pupa teams.
  • Zarck is the only Shlorpian to have three eyes and a beard. All other Shlorpians have two eyes and appear to be bald.
  • Commander Zarck is a dark parallel of Korvo. Both were extremely strict leaders, and both were jingoistic towards Shlorpian culture to the point of rejecting all things human. However, Korvo began to appreciate his team and his new planet, while Zarck never did. Had Korvo remained the same stuck-up radical he was at the beginning of the show, he would have ended up like Zarck.
