We are the result of an experiment aimed at creating a superconsciousness called “C-Consciousness”.
~ The C-Consciousness representative.

Common Consciousness (Rus.: Общее Сознан; Uk.: Загальна Свідомість), also known as the C-Consciousness (Russian: О-Сознание; Uk.: Усвідомлення) is the main antagonist of the Ukrainian FPS survival horror video game franchise S.T.A.L.K.E.R..

C-Consciousness is an amalgamation of scientists who voluntarily partook on the project. They were employed for a serial of experiments on Noosphere, a biosphere of human consciousness and mental activities. One of their experiments ended in catastrophe which result in the creation of the Zone to secure themselves from the outer world they activated the Brain Scorcher to brainwash stalkers into fanatics.

It is voiced by Anatoly Bogush in Russian version and Steve Blum in English version, who also voiced Orochimaru and Zabuza Momochi from Naruto, Ares from God of War, Green Goblin from The Spectacular Spider-Man and Starscream from Transformers: Prime.

History[]

Origin[]

Common Consciousness, then known as just the "Group" started experimenting and researching the affects of the Chernobyl disaster in various laboratories, it is unknown though if C-Consciousness has any connections to them. Uninhabited area, powerful antennas and source of energy(The ChNPP) made Chernobyl an ideal place for a series of large-scale secret experiments.

Their main goal was to verify the theory about noosphere, earth's informational shell. Not only did they proved the existence of it, they manage to connect their minds to it by the so-called psi-field. On March 4, 2006, there was an intervention, however it was unsuccessful owing to a power outage. The experiment was repeated a month later on April 12 and this time it went all the way through. The generators instead caused a rupture in the Noosphere, which then directly affected the biosphere, producing the Zone, a vast region where physical laws were overtly defied and inexplicable phenomena not yet fully understood by contemporary science presented themselves.

There was more study done than only altering the Noosphere to change human nature. This includes mind control, brainwashing, memory changes, and complete psychological devastation. Animals were successfully taught basic instructions via the C-Consciousness. General Krylov dispatched a special expedition team into the Agroprom Underground, and they found some recordings of these trials there.

The C-Consciousness looked for a means of governing the Zone. The C-Consciousness was seeking to use their power to stop the noosphere gap from growing, but humans were endangering their efforts. The scientists developed a barrier to shield them from invaders out of concern for their safety. The Brain Scorcher, an experimental psi-antenna outside of Pripyat, was the main component of this psychic defensive network. When activated, it subjected every human who within his range to mind control by the C-Consciousness and made them one of their agents. The legend of the Wish Granter was the secondary force, it enticed stalkers into the center of the Zone with promises of wealth and wishes coming true, only for them to either lose their mind or become their agents.

In 2011, a Loner by the name of Strelok and his group, after countless attempts discovered a passage to the Zone's center and came dangerously near to infiltrating the lab that served as the C-Consciousness' operational hub. To this time, Strelok's team was halted, and they dispersed. Strelok himself made an attempt to reach the Sarcophagus while wearing a prototype psy-protection device that Sakharov had given him and which made him immune to the Brain Scorcher's radiation. It his last attempt to reach the center, Strelok went alone, but Clear Sky with the help of Scar interrupted him and used the EM1 Rifle to take down his psy-protection. They attempt ended in succuss, however it sparkled a huge radiation emission, which resulted in Clear Sky's destruction and major changes in the Zone itself.

After those faithful events, C-Consciousness launched a new program, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. in order to prevent and neutralize their main threat, Strelok. For this program, C-Consciousness abducted hundreds of stalkers, including Scar, to brainwash and erase their memories with only one mission: Find and kill Strelok. But, unknowingly to them, along with hundreds of stalkers, Strelok himself was abducted and brainwash into killing himself and, along with hundreds of stalkers was send back to the Zone with no memories.

Eventually, after a time, Strelok, now renamed to Mechenyj went back to the center after regaining his memories, where he met with the C-Consciousness Representative, the manifesto of the seven scientists minds, that tired to convince him into joining them, but Strelok refused and after fighting endless amounts of Monolith fighters, destroyed C-Consciousness ones and for all.

C-Consciousness Representative

C-Consciousness Representative is the main antagonist in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow Of Chernobyl, the first installment in the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series.

Allegedly, C-Consciousness Representative is the manifesto of the scientists' connected mind, who attempts to convince Strelok to join C-Consciousness. The player has two options, the canonical, "Refuse" and the non-canonical "Accept":

  • Refuse (Canonical), Strelok rejects the offer and is send to ChNPP-2 where he fights countless numbers of fanatics and eventually finds C-Consciousness' HQ and destroys them for good.
  • Accept (Non-Canonical), Strelok accepts the offer and is put the device that allows to control the Zone through the Noosphere. The game ends with the Doctor's monologue where he is curios about his old friend's fate. Presumably, Strelok's mind also becomes part of the C-Consciousness Representative.

Membership[]

  • Chubko Vadim Mikhailovich (Mostly likely was member of the Group, unknown if became part of C-Consciousness)
  • Strizh Pyotr Danilovich (Proposed his candidacy for the Group, unknown if became part of the C-Consciousness)
  • Kaymanov
  • Assistants (Heavily implied)
    • 3 members
  • Numerous brainwashed stalkers
  • N. A. Lebedev
  • V.I. "Docent" Suslov
  • E.F. "Beanpolev" Kalancha (All three formerly)

Powers & Skills[]

  1. Superhuman Intelligence: Seven scientists connected their minds, thus creating the C-Consciousness Representative, whom they control simultaneously.
  2. Advanced Technology: By using their newly acquired intellect. They develop technologies surpasses modern science.
  3. Brainwashing (Via Brain Scorcher): C-Consciousness using the Brain Scorcher brainwashes stalkers into lunatics who obsess over the Wish Granter, or simply the Monolith.
  4. Telepathic Communication (Via Noosphere): C-Consciousness uses telepathy to communicate with their followers, keeping their fanaticism. They also used this during Strelok's conversation with C-Consciousness Representative.
  5. Army of loyal Fanatics: C-Consciousness have an army of fanatical belivers whom they control through the puppet leader, Charon.
