Grraar…This Conga's tree! Me hit bear with oranges!
~ Conga in Banjo Kazooie
Four tickets are required to enter Conga's Big Top. No tickets, no entry.
~ Conga in Banjo-Tooie

Conga is a minor antagonist in the Banjo-Kazooie series. He is a giant ape who constantly gets in the way of Banjo and Kazooie's adventures.

Description[]

Appearance[]

Conga is a huge gorilla who wears a red shirt with black trousers and shoes. In Banjo-Tooie, he wore a red vest, top hat and wielded a whip.

Personality[]

Conga started out as a bully who attacked anyone who came into his territory, and had a simple-minded means of speaking. Later on, he had expanded his vocabulary and gotten a legitimate job which he takes seriously.

Abilities and Powers[]

Conga is quite strong, so attacking him directly is sure to fail. Shooting eggs at him will hurt him, but not put him down for good.

History[]

Banjo-Kazooie[]

At some point, Conga came to Mumbo's Mountain and claimed a lone orange tree as his territory. He possessed two Jiggies (likely given to him by Gruntilda for safe-keeping); he kept one on him and hid the other underground, which can only be revealed by hitting the surrounding blocks with oranges.

When Banjo and Kazooie trespass in Mumbo's Mountain where Conga's tree is, he begins to throw oranges at them, viewing them as trespassing. They trick him into throwing oranges onto his blocks, allowing them to collect his first Jiggy. They then climb his tree and steal one of his oranges to give to monkey in exchange for another Jiggy and a platform leading to higher ground. After Bottles teaches them how to shoot eggs, they become able of harming Conga. Though Conga retaliates by throwing more oranges, he is defeated and forced to give up his last Jiggy, but will keep throwing oranges at the duo if they come too close again.

Banjo Tooie[]

Within the span of two years, Conga moves away from his tree and gets a job as ringmaster for the big top at Witchyworld, which he calls, "Conga's Big Top." He won't let anyone pass by unless they give him four tickets, which are hidden in sentient, hostile slot-machines surrounding the tent.

When Banjo and Kazooie arrive to enter the Big Top, Conga refuses to let them in unless they give him four tickets, which are hidden in sentient, hostile slot-machines surrounding the tent, which can only be destroyed by powerful means. They are also required to learn the Airborne Egg Aiming technique, and he won't allow just either one of them in alone. Once all the conditions are met, Conga leaves and the duo are allowed to fight against Mr. Patch.

Conga's current location is unknown.

Trivia[]

  • Although Conga does not appear directly in Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts, he is directly referenced to the Citrus Slick vehicle part, which shoots oranges that slow down other racers. "Brave Mumbo steal Conga's oranges to invent this."
  • He is the character who possesses the most Jiggies in Banjo-Kazooie with two.
  • It is unknown whether he intentionally set up the fight against Mr. Patch in Banjo-Tooie. If so, he presumably did it for revenge. However, if he did it for revenge, the question is why he refuses to let the pair in unless they know Airborne Egg Aiming.
  • Conga uses the same soundbyte as Donkey Kong.
  • Conga's carnival hat is available as a downloadable accessory for the first Viva Piñata game.
  • When you are in Mumbo's Mountain and come to his tree in Termite Banjo form, he will call himself "Congo" rather than his real name. This was his name in the beta version of the game, and was left in by mistake.
