Constable Sahadevan is the secondary antagonist of the 2013 Malayalam thriller film Drishyam. He is a corrupt police constable who's known for extorting people for money and holding a petty yet bitter grudge against the local cable TV operator Georgekutty.

He was portrayed by Kalabhavan Shajon.

Biography[]

Being a corrupt constable in general, Sahadevan was known for extorting money from people, much to Georgekutty's displeasure. This was shown when he was first seen trying to extort more money from Georgekutty's friend Mr. Soma, resulting an annoyed Georgekutty to declare that the police won't approve of his activities. This resulted an angry Sahadevan to declare that he will settle scores with Georgekutty one day.

Sahadevan is later seen extorting 300 rupees from another person before witnessing Georgekutty riding a yellow car out from sight, just as he learns from his boss, the police chief Geetha Prabhakar, that her son Varun Prabhakar is gone missing. Upon hearing that Varun had a yellow car bought by his parents and that it was dumped at a lake, Sahadevan learned that it was the same car that Georgekutty drove. Believing that Georgekutty and his family may have something to do with Varun's disappearance, Sahadevan suggested to Geetha to take them in for interrogation about Varun's disappearance, but Georgekutty anticipated this by taking his family into a divine retreat in order to provide alibis from establishment owners. Unknown to Geetha, Sahadevan and the others, it is revealed that Varun took pictures of Anju and tried to use them to blackmail her and her mother Rani into having sex with him, resulting his accidental death when Anju tried to smash his phone with a pipe. It also turns out that Varun's body was buried in a compost pit by Rani and Anju before they told Georgekutty about what happened.

However, Geetha soon learned that the alibis were faked, so she had Georgekutty and his family arrested. Taking the opportunity to finally settle his scores, Sahadevan uses brute force to beat up Georgekutty, Rani and Anju in a failed attempt to spill out the truth. The beatings were so brutal, even Geetha's husband Mr. Prabhakar and the other police officers are disgusted by this. Even when Varun's friend Alex informed Geetha about what Varun tried to do to Anju, Geetha refused to drop this as she still wants to know what happened to Varun, resulting an argument between herself and Mr. Prabhakar.

Upon witnessing the Prabhakars arguing against each other and realizing that he's running out of choices to make Georgkutty and his family spill out the truth, Sahadevan brutally slaps Georgekutty's youngest daughter Anu, much to the shock of the Prabhakars. Sahadevan then threatens to stomp Anu to death, which finally forced Anu to admit the truth that her family hid Varun's body in the compost pit. Sahadevan is delighted that he can take the opportunity to put Georgekutty and his family to jail for Varun's murder; even taunting him that no one (not even their relatives) can help them out on it. However, Georgekutty anticipated this by moving Varun's body from the pit and replacing it with a carcass of a calf while having his brother-in-law Rajesh to call in the media to the event, thus vindicating Georgekutty and his family from all charges.

Despite knowing now that there is no evidence to arrest Georgekutty and his family, Sahadevan refuses to concede defeat when Georgekutty and Anu spoke out to the media about the horrible beatings that Sahadevan gave to their family. Defying Geetha's orders to stand down, Sahadevan furiously vows to beat up the family again, but an angry Rajesh came to the rescue by smacking Sahadevan in the face before telling the other citizens to thrash him for what he did. Realizing now that he's done for, a horrified Sahadevan is forced to run away from the angry citizens to avoid getting beaten up or killed.

With Sahadevan condemned for his actions by the media, Geetha resigns from her job out of guilt over Varun's actions. Before leaving for the United States, Geetha and Mr. Prabhakar apologized to Georgekutty and his family by holding themselves responsible for causing Varun's spoiled behavior in the first place, and Georgekutty cryptically confessed of what really happened, resulting him to be placed in remand after signing a register at the police station before returning to his family. It also turns out that Georgekutty buried Varun's body beneath the police station as it would be the last place to look through.

In the meantime, Sahadevan ends up being suspended from the police force for battery and assault, as evidenced by a newspaper article detailing his cruel actions against Georgekutty and his family. It is also told in a TV report that Sahadevan will be placed for inquiry following his suspension, implying a possibility that he would serve a sentence in prison for his crimes.
