~ Constance to Laura while turning the lights off. |
Constance Hackett (née Grundy) is a supporting antagonist in The Quarry
The mother of three sons, Bobby, Travis and Chris, and the wife of Jedediah, Constance doesn't go out hunting like them, and instead remains in the safety of her own home. She initally wants to protect the counselors, and tries to help her sons and husband do so, but after her granddaughter Kaylee is killed, Constance decides there is no more protecting them, and is vengeful.
Constance was portrayed by Lin Shaye, who also played Joyce Smith in the movie, Room For Rent.
Biography[]
The Quarry[]
Constance walks down into the Hackett house basement where werewolf Nick is held and mocks him, making him shock himself on the electrified metal by teasing him to try to bite her.
Afterwards, Constance and Travis talk in the Dining Room of the Hackett House and he reveals that Kaylee was murdered, much to her dismay. She gets angry at both Travis and the counselors, but then realizes that two of them; Laura and Ryan are downstairs, and she has them dragged up, dragging Laura up personally. While she antagonizes them, Laura is able to get away and Constance shuts off the lamp in the room, and then sneaks up on Laura and tries to fight for her shotgun. Here, Constance can potientally die and gets her face blown out by the shotgun blast, or Laura will get away once more.
If she wasn't killed, she goes back to the table after Laura drops the shotgun and picks it back up. She encourages her family to kill them for murdering Kaylee and can even shoot Laura herself. After the two escape the dining room she helps the rest search for them.
She reappears upstairs with Jedediah as Laura tries to exit the room. Constance does nothing in this scene aside from watching Jedediah fight Laura and potentially watching his death in horror. When Travis comes into the room, she tries to get him to use his silver on Laura to no avail.
She appears in the Hackett Basement brawl with Jed as Bobby tries to fend off Chris, Travis tries to fend off Werewolf Laura, and Ryan is under the table. If Bobby was stabbed by Ryan earlier, Bobby will be unable to fend Chris off, getting himself, and Jed and Constance killed. If he wasn't stabbed, he will hold Chris long enough for Ryan to get up and get him distracted, causing Constance and Jed to be able to leave the room quickly. After this, Constance is not seen again.
Personality[]
Given Constance's foulmouthed and abrasive way of speaking, it can be assumed that she is an abusive parent, or at the very least, just a very aggressive one. When she finds out that Laura and Max had escaped prison and killed her granddaughter, Kaylee, she heavily berates Travis. No matter how much Travis tries to reason with her, he cannot escape Constance's extremely judgmental ranting.
There are no extended interactions seen with her and any of her other children, so it's unknown if she carries that same way of speaking with them. Her interactions with her husband Jedediah appear to be much more agreeable and friendly.
