~ Coontz revealing himself as a traitor to the rebels.

Dean Coontz, better known as just Coontz, is a major antagonist in the 1993 film RoboCop 3.

He was a member of a rebellion fighting against OCP's evictions through the Rehabs. However, Coontz was secretly a spy for Paul McDaggett, the leader of the Rehabs, selling him information in exchange for money. Eventually, Coontz sells the entire rebel base out, sentencing hundreds of citizens, including himself, to death.

He was portrayed by Stephen Root, who also voiced Unity and Reverend Amos Howell in Superman: The Animated Series, Frank in Ice Age, Mildew in Dragons: Riders of Berk and Jim Hudson in Get Out.

Personality[]

While presenting himself as a heroic, albeit anxious key member of the rebellion, Coontz eventually reveals himself to be nothing more than a greedy coward. While initially serving the rebellion, Coontz secretly throws in with McDaggett and the Rehabs in exchange for money, putting his own self-interest and greed above the lives of his people. He goes so far as to sell out the rebellion base, knowningly condemning dozens, if not hundreds of men, women, and children to death, and even pulls a gun on his former allies to keep them in place for the approaching Rehab death squad.

Biography[]

Coontz joined the Old Detroit rebellion at some point, fighting against OCP's power-hungry oppression by helping raid their infantry, and helps plan many riots and attacks against the Rehabs. However, Coontz secretly became, or already was an informant for the Rehabs and met with their leader, Paul McDaggett.

He tipped off McDaggett to the location of the rebel base and was caught in the act by RoboCop. However, the cyborg took off after McDaggett, allowing Coontz to run off and return to the base.

Upon arrival, he held Bertha and Moreno at gunpoint, but the same was done to him by Zack. Shortly thereafter, the Rehabs attacked the base. Coontz was killed in the assault so that they would not have to pay him for his contributions.
