| ~ Alan to DJ about the Second Coming's vision of the Corruption in the AvG Reaction for Hardcore Manhunt. |
The Corruption is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Navy) of Season 3 and the main antagonist of Season 5 of the Animation vs. Minecraft Shorts.
It's a mysterious, eldritch glitch-like entity that lives in the world of Minecraft and corrupts all it touches. The Corruption is the one that killed Gold, King Orange's son, thus sending him onto a path of omnicidal villainy. Several years later, the Corruption returns to force the world of Minecraft into Hardcore Mode, making death permanent.
Appearance[]
The Corruption appears as a pitch-black flood that swallows all it touches.
History[]
Season 3 / "The King"[]
The Corruption made its debut in "The King". When Gold entered a Minecraft simulation in the Outernet to have fun with and play the game, suddenly the simulation started having an alarm. As the attraction's developers tried to fix the issue, the Corruption replaced the server's Sun and started corrupting the entire Overworld. Gold barely escaped the game before the Corruption swallowed him, but it chased him into the Outernet. King Orange, Gold's father, was forced to watch as his son was slowly glitched out as he tried to escape the booth. However, at the last moment, the Corruption dragged Gold back into the Minecraft world, causing the boy's untimely death as the Sun exploded and the server crashed.
Heartbroken and traumatized by his child's death, King Orange became a villain who tried to destroy the world of Minecraft to avenge Gold.
Season 5[]
"Hardcore Manhunt"[]
One day, the Second Coming suddenly has a nightmare/premonition of the Corruption swallowing another Minecraft world before waking up. As he and his friends adventure throughout the blocky sandbox, Yellow uses his Command Block Staff too often, causing it to briefly glitch out. Several minutes later, as the Stick Gang and their armor stands are having fun, the Corruption suddenly appears and washes over the world, leaving one glitched out chest in its wake. Yellow tries to use the staff to undo the glitch, but a small bit of the Corruption that was residing inside the chest corrupts the staff and starts wreaking havoc, teleporting a now-redeemed King into the Far Lands before forcefully locking the world into Hardcore Mode.
To test out Hardcore, the Stick Gang kills one of the armor stands to see if it'll respawn. When it doesn't, the remaining armor stands panic before turning against their masters in fear that they're next. Yellow tries to use the staff to kill them, but the Corruption suddenly destroys the whole staff, reducing it into nothingness. The Stick Gang is forced to run for its life against the armor stands.
Trivia[]
- It's unknown what the Corruption is, where it came from, or if it has a creator. Some fans speculate it might be connected to Null, a popular Minecraft creepypasta.
- Some fans think that, since the Corruption returned in Season 5, it might also cause Gold's return despite his apparent death.
- The Corruption, Purple and the Orb are the only AvM antagonists who reprise their antagonistic role over several seasons (The Corruption for Seasons 3 and 5, Purple for Seasons 1 and 3, and the Orb for Seasons 2 and 4).
