The Council of the Crystal King, also known as the Crystal Council, are the secondary antagonists of Season 15: Crystalized in LEGO Ninjago: Masters of Spinjitzu.
They are a team of the Ninja's past adversaries and the generals of the Crystal Army, recruited by their puppet leader Harumi, to serve the Crystal King, specifically to bring the Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu to him for his plan to corrupt Ninjago into darkness.
History[]
Before Crystalized[]
After dying from the collapsing of a building caused by Skylor and Emperor Garmadon’s fight over the Colossuss, Harumi found herself in a purple void, called by The Crystal King’s spirit. The Crystal King invited Harumi to join and serve him in exchange for resurrecting her. Despite hesitating, Harumi accepted the deal and was revived. After escaping from the building’s rubble with the strength given by the Crystal King (in the form of a crystal), Harumi was ordered to go to the Oni Temple and plant the Crystal, transforming the Oni Temple into the Crystal Temple.
The Crystal King also revealed himself to Harumi to be the Overlord, causing her to hesitate more. The Overlord told Harumi that in order for peace to be made, one side of the Balance must win once and for all, and that dark shall win. The Overlord ordered her to create an army for his plan, leading to the set-up of the Council of the Crystal King.
The first Villain hired by Harumi for the Overlord’s plan was Vangelis, the King of Shintaro who was under the Skull Sorcerer alias using the Skull Of Hazza D'ur and slaving the Geckles and the Munce to mine Vengestone to keep his Kingdom stable by selling it to Harumi and therefore the Crystal King, in order for him to make an army of Vengestone Warriors and also weaken the Ninja. However, after Vangelis was defeated by the Ninja in Season 13: Master of the Mountain, the Vengestone deals ended. The next villain hired by Harumi was Miss Demeanor, a lower-level fire-equipped criminal who would do the Vengestone deals as ordered, eventually facing the Ninja in the opening scene of Season 15: Seabound, while supervised by Harumi. Miss Demeanor and her henchmen managed to escape with the Vengestone due to Nya’s powers not working well.
Recruiting Members[]
“ | You are invited to join the Council of the Crystal King, and have your revenge upon those who wronged you. Do you accept? | „ |
~ A projection of Harumi, as Kabuki Mask, when recruiting members for the Council. |
One year after Kalmaar's death and Nya's sacrifice to destroy Wojira, the Ninja stopped doing service and went on their separate ways. The night before the anniversary of Nya's sacrifice, Miss Demeanor was once again doing Vengestone smuggling with henchmen. However, they were detained by the New Ninja, a replacement team of the Ninja that is more closely associated with the Government and the city's neglectful mayor, Ulysses Trustable. Miss Demeanor escaped, while the event was supervised by one of Harumi's Crystal Spiders. Cole, Zane, and P.I.X.A.L., still assisting in the Monastery, saw the news on the incident and decided to reunite the Ninja to stop the Vengestone deals. After Kai, Lloyd, and a depressed Jay joined, the re-formed Ninja investigated the Vengestone deals at Ninjago's old subway tunnels. Soon, Miss Demeanor and her henchmen returned and engaged in a fight. The New Ninja soon intervened and at the end defeated Miss Demeanor, who was arrested shortly after.
Back at the Monastery's Samurai X Cave, Jay and Kai got mad at each other and engaged in a fight, but Nya soon showed up, unstable due to her water form being in the surface world, telling the Ninja that the way for her to be human again is to take away her elemental power. Zane froze her to keep her form safe at the cave, while the Ninja decided that the only way to remove Nya's powers is to free Aspheera, mainly due to her scepter being capable to steal Elemental Powers. While Wu was against the plan, the Ninja went anyway and freed her and her scepter and, with help from Skylor Chen, the operation was successful and Nya became human again, though Trustable has discovered the Ninja's actions and sent the New Ninja to arrest them.
Aspheera, after escaping, returned to the Pyramid at the Desert of Doom, where she was visited by another of Harumi's Crystal Spiders. The spider projected Harumi (disguised as Kabuki Mask) inviting Aspheera for the Council of the Crystal King, to which she gladly accepted, seeing it as a chance of true revenge. Soon after the Ninja's trial and sentencing to five years at Kryptarium Prison, more recruitments by the Crystal Spiders followed, these being Vangelis and Pythor P. Chumsworth, who was imprisoned alongside the Ninja and got freed by the spiders. Prior to their recruitements, Kabuki Mask personally visited Lloyd at Kryptarium Prison, where they warned him about the Council and that Ninjago will fall into the wrath of the Crystal King, before escaping.
Two days later, while on a trip by the Prison, the Ninja were freed by Nya, who has returned to her Samurai X alias and built a new mech suit with P.I.X.A.L., turning the Ninja into fugitives. After splitting and reuniting again, alongside Fugi-Dove, the Ninja tried to deduce who will be the villain that's recruited next by the Crystal King so they can impostor him to inflitrate the Crystal King's hideout. They guessed the Mechanic, so they continued escaping from the police (led by HoundDog McBrag) and went to Ninjago City at the Mechanic's headquarters to capture him before he gets recruited. After a fight, they stopped him and tied him up with them, while Lloyd was responsible for disguising as him for a Crystal Spider to arrive. The plan worked and Lloyd began following it to the secret hideout.
Capturing Lloyd[]
“ | So, you came all this way to find out who I am. Can't you guess? Can't you feel it, Lloyd? Can't you sense it? I'll give you a clue. | „ |
~ The Kabuki Mask to Lloyd before revealing themselves to be Harumi. |
Lloyd continued following the spider up to the subway tunnels, where he found himself to a staircase up to a purple vehicle. After entering the vehicle, the vehicle initiated and went at very high speeds to a long track, going all the way out of Ninjago City and into Primeval's Eye. While the Ninja were seeing Lloyd's signal, they were attacked by a freeing Mechanic, who made them follow him up in the subway tunnels, where they engaged in another fight. After the fight, the Mechanic prevailed and escaped in a coming train to go to the Crystal Temple. Soon, the vehicle Lloyd was at was going so fast and far that Zane lost contact with Lloyd. During the incident, another Crystal Spider secretly filmed and detected the real Mechanic and left.
Lloyd, now on his own, continued in the long track on the crystal vehicle up until finally arriving at the underground Crystal Temple, accidentally tripping on Vengestone statues for to-be-awakened Vengestone Warriors upon getting down the vehicle. The undercover Lloyd then went to a staircase and found a table room, where all recruited members for the Council (including Mister F, a new model of Mr. E) were sat in.
Undercover Lloyd sat on one of the chairs, when he asked for who was the main chair. Harumi, still as Kabuki Mask, came in and said that it is they're chair. Harumi told the Council that the Crystal King will reveal his ultimate plan on a later time, and also said that one of them is an impostor. Lloyd got nervous as Aspheera was blaming Vangelis saying that he was the impostor as he wears a mask, to which he says that so does Mister F. Harumi then projected the recording from the Crystal Spider of the Ninja's fight with the real Mechanic, revealing the true impostor. Lloyd tried to escape but the Council's members began attacking and trying to catch him, with Mister F eventually shooting Lloyd and knocking him out. Harumi then stepped in on him and sang a familiar song to Lloyd, 'Spider's in the House', shocking him. Harumi soon took her Kabuki Mask off and revealed herself to Lloyd, before he fully blacked out.
Battle at the Monastery[]
“ | Wu: What is the meaning of this? Vangelis: I would think it's obvious. We're here for-- Aspheera: REVENGE! (Pythor shrugs) Vangelis: No, not revenge! Not this time! Not EVERYTHING is about revenge! We're here for the Weapons of Spinjitzu. Wu: Come and get them, if you can. Aspheera: I was hoping you'd say that! |

Harumi explained to Lloyd, now chained in Vengestone, about how she survived and who the Crystal King is, and then revealing that the ultimate purpose of the Council is to invade the Monastery, take the Golden Weapons of Spinjitzu, and bring them to the Crystal King. Lloyd said to her that the weapons are powerless now, but Harumi remarked that true power cannot be gone. Later, Harumi tortured Lloyd by apparently killing the other Ninja, who were trying to find him in the tunnels, using the Crystal Spiders, with bomb countdowns known as Spider-Bombs. Without them knowing, the Ninja survived through an old, resistable subway car Jay recognized. Lloyd, devastated, got furious at Harumi, activating his Oni power for the first time. Oni Lloyd began attacking Harumi and Mister F, but soon realized what he was doing and hesitated, and got knocked out again by Mister F.
Meanwhile on the Monastery, Wu, P.I.X.A.L., Nya, and Skylor lost signal with the Ninja as a result of the exploded Spider-Bombs. While trying to re-connect, they discovered that the elevators have been activated by the Council (Pythor, Aspheera, Vangelis, and the Mechanic), who arrived soon after. Vangelis told the heroes what they came for, before engaging in a long fight between the heroes and villains. Despite the heroes' efforts, the villains get the upper hand in most of their individual fights, up until Wu is the last one standing.
He fought Aspheera, Vangelis, and the Mechanic at the same time and initially overpowered and dodged them, but soon the villains once again became more victorious and Wu got defeated. After the Council opened the Weapons' vault from the floor, P.I.X.A.L. activated the MiniPix, a line of mini-robots created by her that helps her in building equipment and vehicles fast. The MiniPix tried to distract the Council with their lasers, but they're lack of fighting programming maked them last less. Soon, hundreds of Crystal Spiders arrived from the elevator, and began shooting down the MiniPix and destroying the Cave, distracting the heroes. As the Cave continued damaging, the Council finally got a chance to grab the Golden Weapons. After grabbing them individually, they escaped through the elevator, but not before the Mechanic initiates a countdown on the Spiders for a mass explosion on the Monastery.
Luckily, the heroes survived the Monastery's destruction mostly thanks to MiniPix Seven, and Nya, having barely escaped the explosion and on her Samurai X MECH, went to rescue the Ninja from the subway car's slow tear-down.
The Crystal King Returned[]

~ Aspheera saying the words for the ritual of the Golden Weapons' transformation. |
After the battle at the Monastery, the Council returned to the Crystal Temple, where Harumi told the again-chained Lloyd that Wu, P.I.X.A.L., Nya, and Skylor died, angering Lloyd in despair. Harumi then led the Council to begin the Ritual to transform the Weapons of Spinjitzu into the Weapons of Destruction. After the Weapons transformed, the Crystal King also took physical form, rising from the main Crystal. The Crystal King taunted Lloyd, doing a call-back to the Ultimate Battle.
New Powers[]
“ | You still hope? Admirable, but foolish. Watch as I crush that hope! | „ |
~ The Crystal King to Lloyd before giving the Council new crystallized powers. |
After the ritual, the Crystal King continued taunting Lloyd, saying that the First Spinjitzu Master, Wu, and Garmadon failed to stop him in a similar manner. Lloyd said that third time's the charm, and the Crystal King answered that he will crush his hope, before shooting his crystal powers on the main Crystal, shooting all Council members, upgrading their appearance, and giving them the Weapons of Destruction. The Council thanked the Overlord for giving them the new powers, and Lloyd mocked the Overlord. The Crystal King then liberated the Crystal Temple from underground and turned it into a floating island on top of Primeval's Eye. After the Temple was elevated, the Council began arguing.
Hunting Lloyd[]
“ | After him, you fools. Destroy him! | „ |
~ The Crystal King to his council. |
The Crystal Council was seen riding Dragonides in order to find Lloyd and bring him to the Crystal King.
Hunting the Ninja[]
“ | Silence! I gave you everything! New powers, weapons, an army of Crystal Warriors. But you fail me at every turn! | „ |
~ The Crystal King to his council after they all failed capturing the ninja. |
Final Battle[]
The Council of the Crystal King assists the crystal army in the attack, but the ninja uses Dragon Form to fight the Council, defeating them one by one and reclaiming their respective Golden Weapons, although Mr. F's fate is unknown. The Overlord himself would soon be defeated by Lloyd and the Golden Dragon, with Harumi redeeming herself. The remaining council members were later imprisoned for their crimes against Ninjago and its inhabitants, though The Mechanic manages to escape custody after The Merge.

Trivia[]
- According to Tommy Andreasen, Nadakhan was considered to be a part of the Crystal Council. However, the idea was scrapped since his return would have been too complicated to explain.
- This is the second major alliance of various Ninjago villains, after one formed by Sensei Yang in the TV special Day of the Departed, which consisted of Pythor, Samukai, General Kozu, General Cryptor, Master Chen, and Morro (who was later revealed to be reformed).
- Pythor is the only villain to be part of both groups.
- Morro being redeemed later in the special bears similarities to Harumi’s arc in Crystalized, both being heavy adversaries of Lloyd later turning good while part of a villain group formed by a bigger threat. This is coincidental due to a popular fan-ship between Harumi and Morro, describing them as together in the Departed Realm.
- Unlike Yang’s alliance, the Council has far more screen time together and far more interactions with each other and serve their benefactor more majorly, fighting together on some occasions, whereas Yang’s group had the respective villains as individual from each other and just going alone to get offered revenge on their enemies.
- The Council line-up includes an equality of villains from Ninjago's three major eras, these being Pythor and the Mechanic (the WILFilm seasons), Harumi and Mister F, the latter being a new model of Mr. E (The Oni Trilogy), and Aspheera and Vangelis (the WildBrain seasons).
- Early leaks of Crystalized plot details did not mention the Mechanic in the line-up.
- With the exception of Harumi and Mister F, all of the Council members were selected as being the only major Ninjago villains at the time to not be deceased (Samukai, Kozu, Cryptor, Chen and Kalmaar), presumed deceased (the Omega), redeemed (Garmadon, Morro, Yang, Unagami and Ronin), currently in a realm/dimension/imprisoned outside of Ninjago (Nadakhan, Clouse, Iron Baron and Vex) or whereabouts unknown (Acronix and Krux).
- All members of the Council were seemingly recruited to combat a specific ninja, in addition to having some form of history with the Overlord or for usage for his plans.
- Harumi was resurrected by the Overlord so she could bring him back to life, in addition for her hatred with Lloyd. She would be loyal to the Overlord before betraying him upon learning the Overlord indirectly got her parents killed.
- Aspheera was recruited to perform a ritual to bring the Overlord a new body, she has a personal hatred on Kai for she took Kai's powers and so she uses the Sword of Fire against him.
- Pythor was recruited for his past association the Overlord during the events of Rebooted. Unlike the other members, he doesn't have any personal history with his assigned ninja, Jay, due to being left with the Nunchucks of Lightning, but he does have hatred for Lloyd.
- Mister F is the remodeled version of Mr. E, a nindroid who worked with Harumi in the past and had a personal hatred with Zane, nearly destroying him and so he used one of the Shurikens of Ice against him.
- The Mechanic doesn't have any association with the Overlord or the other Council members, but he was recruited for his personal hatred for Zane, wanting to take his parts for his own use, and so he used one of the Shurikens of Ice against him.
- Vangelis was recruited for being the supplier of Vengestone needed for the Crystal Army. He has a personal hatred for Cole for foiling his plans and exposing him to his daughter and kingdom for his crimes, as such he used the Scythe of Quakes against him.
- With the exception of the Mechanic and Mister F, all of the Council's members have a theme song. Also with the exception of the latter two villains, all of the members had a kind of monarch heritage at some point.
- Harumi was formerly the Jade Princess of Ninjago in Season 8: Sons of Garmadon up until the death of the Emperor and the Empress she was indirectly responsible for stealing the Oni Mask of Deception.
- Aspheera was formerly the Queen of the Serpentine in flashbacks of Season 11: Secrets of the Forbidden Spinjitzu after overthrowing King Mambo V using Spinjitzu, up until being defeated by a young Wu and Garmadon using Forbidden Spinjitzu and imprisoned in the pyramid for millennia.
- Vangelis was formerly the king of Shintaro in Season 13: Master of the Mountain while secretly being the Skull Sorcerer and enslaving the Geckles and the Munce in Shintaro's dungeons, before being defeated by Cole, the Ninja, and her own daughter Vania and imprisoned, with Vania taking the role of Queen.
- Pythor was formerly the Serpentine King in Season 1: Rise of the Snakes up until the Great Devourer's liberation caused by him, resulting in his apparent death and bleaching.
- The Council bears similarities to Marvel's Sinister Six. Both are villain teams composed of past enemies of the heroes who want revenge.
