Lord Blumiere, better known as Count Bleck (in Japanese: ノワール伯爵, Nowāru Hakushaku, translated as Count Noir), is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Dimentio) of the 2007 action role-playing game Super Paper Mario.
He is a mysterious figure who wants to destroy all worlds with the power of the Chaos Heart by summoning the Void supposedly so he can create new worlds in their place, when in fact he intends to keep them in ruin. He leads a group of evil-doers that includes Nastasia (one of his lovebirds), Mimi (a shape-shifter who can mimic anyone), O'Chunks (a fighter who joined his group), and Dimentio (a master of dimensions who would later betray him and take the Chaos Heart for himself).
It is slowly revealed in vague flashbacks that Count Bleck (when he was only known as Blumiere) was originally a member of the Tribe of Darkness, a group that broke from the Tribe of Ancients after stealing the Dark Prognosticus to keep its powers from being abused. One day, Blumiere was found injured at the base of a cliff by a human girl named Timpani, who nursed him back to health. Blumiere ignored his father's warnings of humanity and continued to visit Timpani; eventually, the pair fell in love, breaking his tribe's taboo against marriage outside of them (which was made to keep their magical powers from weakening) in the process. Before the plans for marriage were able to work, Timpani vanished, leaving Blumiere gravely heartbroken. Soon afterward, his father revealed that he had teleported Timpani out of their dimension, explaining that their kind could never mix with humans.
During the search for his lost love, Blumiere saved a bat that would be Nastasia from a trap, as revealed by Carson in Flopside. However, his effort to find Timpani was in vain. Inconsolable, Blumiere turned to the pages of the Dark Prognosticus, against his father's pleading for him not to do it. He sought to destroy everything that took Timpani away from him and follow her to the grave. Renaming himself Count Bleck, he gathered a troop to help to put his villainous plans into motion after destroying his home dimension, involving abducting Princess Peach, Luigi, Bowser, and everyone in Bowser's Castle (excluding Mario). Bleck then arranges the marriage between Peach and Bowser which the latter accepts without hesitation and the former is brainwashed by Nastasia to give her vows when she resisted, forming the Chaos Heart, with Luigi unsuccessfully trying to stop it as the Void begins to appear.

Finally ready to begin his plan, Count Bleck attacks Peach's Castle and kidnaps Princess Peach before revealing his existence to Mario, Luigi and Bowser. This enrages them and Mario attacks only to be knocked out and Bleck kidnaps the Koopa Troop to be his own army. At the chapel in his castle, he marries Peach and Bowser (though the former first has to brainwashed by Nastasia) which leads to the Chaos Heart's creation although Count Bleck is careful to have Nastasia brainwash the Koopa Tropp into an army in anticipation of the Four Heroes emerging to stop him. After the first Pure Heart is placed in its Heart Pillar, symbolizing the emergence of the first of the Four Heroes, Bleck rallies his minions and sends Dimentio to the Bitlands only for him to fail.
When Count Bleck learns about Tippi and her similar descriptions to Lady Timpani, he suddenly feels regretful for opening the Void, for he realized that he had found her. However, Count Bleck cannot close the Void for he is still in control of the Chaos Heart so he cuts his losses and .
Castle Bleck
When Mario and Tippi confront Count Bleck at his Castle, the count attempt to destroy them using his magic. However, the power of the Chaos Heart is negated using the power of the Pure Hearts, allowing him to be defeated and left weak, frail, and hopeless. Wanting to die because of his evil deeds for opening the Void and putting his love in serious danger, he asks Mario and Tippi to kill him but Tippi forgives him for she still loves him, and would not do it. It is here that Dimentio tried to blast Count Bleck with his magic, but Nastasia sacrifices herself to save Count Bleck and gets hit instead. Dimentio mocks Nastasia's sacrifice, takes control of the Chaos Heart, brainwashes Luigi, imprisons Tippi, Count Bleck, and Nastasia in Dimension D and tries to destroy the universe himself.
Tippi and Count Bleck re-establish their love, and with the help of O'Chunks and Mimi, the Pure Hearts are restored, and Dimentio, who mixed himself with Luigi and the Chaos Heart to create Super Dimentio, is defeated. In order to banish the Chaos Heart and close the Void, Count Bleck and Tippi demonstrate the true love they possessed at the same area where the Chaos Heart came to be and are finally married. The process causes the Chaos Heart, the Pure Hearts, Count Bleck, and Timpani to vanish, never to be seen again. Some have speculated that they are dead, but Nastasia and Merlon are both convinced that they are alive and living together in happiness. After the credits the silhouettes of Blumiere and Timpani in their original forms are seen in a paradise dimension, looking up at a sunny sky from a hill. It is unknown whether this is The Overthere or not so their ultimate fates are unknown.

As seen during the inter-chapter flashbacks, Blumiere was originally a very kind and patient person who displayed great affection to those he loved, even his somewhat cruel father up until he disposed of Timpani.
After Timpani's supposed death, Blumiere completely snapped and developed a second identity called Count Bleck who stole away the Dark Prognosticus. As Bleck, he was a nihilist who believed that life was meaningless without Timpani and resolved to prevent people from feeling the same way by killing everyone. He is also a pessimist since, once Tippi pointed out that he could stop the prophecy, he announced that it did not matter now since it was too late to prevent the Void from consuming everything.
Upon learning that Timpani was indeed alive, Bleck began having a change of heart, however he still felt that his actions could not be changed and instead resolved to allow the heroes to kill him so that Timpani could live. However, some of Blumiere still remained seeing as he eventually returned to the light side after being prodded to do so in Dimension D after Dimentio sent them there.
Powers and abilities[]
Longevity: Count Bleck was stated to have searched centuries for Timpani without ageing past a fully grown adult. This was possibly due to the influence of the Dark Prognosticus.
Magic: Count Bleck is an absolute master of magic, being the most powerful villain in the game (aside from Super Dimentio and Shadoo although one is a fusion of Luigi, Dimentio, and the Chaos Heart and the other is the boss of the 100 Pits of Flipside as well as being implied to be the Queen of the incredibly powerful race called Pixls).
Flipping: Like all of the other villains and Mario, Count Bleck can make the dimension around him "flip" to teleport him to other realms. Out of all the villains, Count Bleck has the most basic form of "flipping" where he just spins away instead of an additional effect. He can also teleport objects around him as well (as seen with the Dark Prognosticus).
Flight: Count Bleck was able to float around the room to different leveled platforms during his final battle by throwing out his arms to reveal his bat wings and fly around.
Forcefield: Count Bleck had a blue force field around him which proves immune to Mario, Luigi, and Peach's jump and Bowser's fire breath. The only thing capable of breaking it was all eight Pure Hearts.
Rush Attack: Count Bleck can charge up his body with red energy to rush at the selected Hero, damaging them if they don't dodge, use Flip to become intangible, or stamp on his head.
Void Blast: Count Bleck's most powerful attack where he throws up his arms, opening his cape and charging a dark purple cloud of Void energy that he would then fire at his opponent. This was likely his strongest move since he was going to use it to "Game Over" Mario after he had failed to penetrate his force field a second time. However, what this attack would cause is unclear since he was interrupted before he could fire it by Peach, Luigi, and Bowser's arrival.

Scepter: Count Bleck's personal weapon is a large white scepter with a large blue gem at the end through which he can channel his magic.
Energy Blast: Count Bleck can charge the gem on his scepter with purple glitchy energy and fire an energy blast from it. If it makes contact, it will suck the chosen Hero into it and cause damage. This must either be dodged or the player must use the Pixl Slim to become intangible and it will go straight through them.
Vortex Generation: Count Bleck's most disruptive and dangerous attack which is a more powerful version of his regular energy blasts. In performing this attack, Bleck swings his scepter to generate a large cloud of Void energy that would then suck the player in unless they push away from it in time. This is the most powerful attack he uses in actual battle, doing eight damage instead of the Energy Blast's three and the measly 2 damage done by making contact with anything but his head.
Focus Blast: Count Bleck can flare open his cloak and smack an enemy on the head with his scepter, generating a glitchy cloud of Void energy around them strong enough to knock Mario unconscious during the opening scene.
Time Wave: Count Bleck can levitate his scepter in the air and make it spin like the hands of a sped-up clock, This creates a massive wave on the screen that slows down the player into slow motion despite Count Bleck still moving at normal speed. This is the only attack he produces that the player cannot dodge or avoid as it's a status effect across the entire area and will affect the player even if Slim is activated.

While "Bleck" is normally used as onomatopoeia for disgust, it could be interpreted as a corruption of the word "Black" (as in darkness). His Japanese name is also a play on the French word for "black", noir. His real name is likely a combination of blue, referring to his coloration, and lumière, the French term for light and a reference to his status as a member of the Tribe of Darkness which he contrasts with his hopeful attitude.
Count Bleck plays a similar role to Sir Grodus from The Thousand Year Door; both are leaders of the main antagonistic force of the games, both appear in the interludes between each chapter planning their next move, and both were initially thought to be the main villain but are later attacked and betrayed by the true villain after being defeated by Mario (The Shadow Queen for Grodus and Dimentio for Count Bleck). The main difference is that Grodus is truly evil, shows no remorse for his actions and is cruel to his subordinates whereas Bleck is a more sympathetic villain, express remorse for what he did at the end and respects his minions.
Count Bleck had a tendency to speak in third-person, sometimes as though he is reading what he's saying in a book. For instance: "WHAT?! ... Spat Count Bleck in utter disbelief.". This happened directly after reading from the Dark Prognosticus. However, after reconciling with Tippi, he speaks in a normal first-person, implying that he was released from the insanity caused by reading the Dark Prognosticus.
Count Bleck is often considered to be the most tragic, sympathetic and perhaps most complex Mario villain due to his past, his reason for becoming evil, and the fact that he actually showed remorse for his actions and redeemed himself. This is contrasted with Dimentio, who is one of the most psychopathic and cruel villains in the series.
