“ | Hah... Haha! Yes, of course! It certainly would not do to forget that Rowe blood is stained with treachery! Well, so be it. A weather vane must go with the wind, and a born traitor must finish the sedition he started. | „ |
~ Count Rowe |
“ | If only he'd slowed down for a moment to consider how his ridiculous actions would affect me. I carried out my betrayal of the Kingdom with the promise of Imperial protection of our territory firmly in sight. That will of course all be for naught if this ends with our lands razed to the ground and my head skewered on the lance of the enraged king of Faerghus. | „ |
~ Count Rowe |
Count Rowe is an overarching character in Fire Emblem: Three Houses and a supporting antagonist in Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes. The head of House Rowe, he is the adoptive father and later major enemy of Yuri Leclerc, and a minor noble in the Holy Kingdom of Faerghus. Notably unfaithful in the war that grips the the continent of Fódlan, his alliance largely depends on whatever side he regards as powerful, in the hopes of remaining alive after the conflict's conclusion. His house is located at the Fortress City of Arianrhod.
He was voiced by Phillip Reich, who also voiced Viscount Kleiman in the same game.
Appearance[]
Count Rowe does not have a unique design, instead using the generic design of the mage class.
Personality[]
Three Houses is full of despicable, worthless, evil nobles and Count Rowe is among them. A power-hungry coward, he abused his position as Count in Rowe as it was where Arianrhod was located, one of the Kingdom's most powerful and mighty fortresses, to gain more power and authority and frequently used it as a bargaining chip. As House Rowe was one of the weaker noble houses of Faerghus, Rowe developed a inferiority complex that only served to make his hunger for power ravenous to the point of willing to act against his own kingdom's wishes if it meant he could secure wealth and power for himself.
Rowe also has the distinction of being one of if not the only character in the Fódland saga confirmed to engage in sinister sexual advances, as it is heavily implied that one of the main reasons he adopted Yuri was because of how attractive he found him, made all the worse considering Yuri was underage at the time. This was something Yuri was actually counting on, but he still had to tolerate the Count's perverted demeanor towards him throughout his stay in his territory. It is then revealed that Rowe still lusted and wanted to go after Yuri long after he left, obsessed with bringing him back to his home. His treatment of Yuri was so reprehensible and twisted that Yuri openly stated living in a stable's toilet surrounded by manure would be better than ever going back.
Biography[]
Fire Emblem: Three Houses[]
While Count Rowe never appears physically in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, he is mentioned by characters on several occasions. In the first chapter of the Cindered Shadows DLC, Ashe recognizes Yuri as the adopted son of the count before they engage in battle. Besides from this note, Count Rowe fails to be mentioned at any other point in the game's academy phase.
In the game's war phase, Byleth and their allies will eventually encounter one of Rowe's knights, Gwendal Roche, in a chapter dependent on their route (Chapter 16 on the Crimson Flower route, Chapter 15 for every other route). Given Gwendal being encountered in the Valley of Torment, it is likely that Count Rowe was among the nobles to side with Cornelia Arnim in the ensuing conflict.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes[]
In Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Count Rowe first appears in the game's fifth chapter, "Skirmish in the Fog" on the Azure Gleam route. As he travels alongside Gwendal, he discusses his frustation with Lonato for his impatient decision of siding after the Church of Seiros, condemning them for not joining his forces together to fight for Faerghus. While Gwendal explains to Count Rowe for Lonato's reasons for his decision, Rowe creates a scheme dependent on whoever wins their ongoing fight. In this plot, Rowe would side with the Adrestian Empire should Lonato be victorious, but should Lonato fail, he would remain loyal to Faerghus instead. With the Battle of Magdred ending in Lonato's death, Count Rowe's allegiances remains with his kingdom, not wanting to risk the chance of his allies losing.
Sometime after the battle, a convoy that was carrying Count Rowe is attacked by Those Who Slither in the Dark, with the count himself being captured. However, this ambush was truthfully plotted by Rowe in the hopes of remaining unpunished, knowing that Dimitri sought to kill them for his idle corruption.
in Chapter 8, "The Blood-Stained Lance", Dimitri and his army would make their final stand against Cornelia and her allies, with Count Rowe being among the nobles who sided with her. As Dimitri's forces drew close, the count joined her allies in making a desperate strike against their forces as a final act of defense, with Rowe ultimately losing his life in this battle.
Quotes[]
“ | Curse that doddering old fool. Striking out on his own was idiotic to the utmost degree. Had he only been more patient, we could've all joined with the Imperial army's main corps and mobilized as one cohesive unit! | „ |
~ Count Rowe |
“ | But what of his adopted son? Wasn't he made a knight of the royal family? For a time he served the Grand Duke of Itha as well. I can't possibly fathom what the man is thinking. | „ |
~ Count Rowe |
“ | If Lord Lonato and his men fall, Arianrhod is sure to be met with a siege. In which case, we hand it back to the Kingdom. A peace offering, if you will. But if Lonato emerges victorious, we defect to the Empire as planned. Both sides covet the fortress. Whichever way the winds of war blow, we only need match them to stay afloat. | „ |
~ Count Rowe |
“ | Hmph, don't play dumb with me, Gwendal. You've said it yourself. There will be no shame in surrender as long as you fight tooth and nail to the end. | „ |
~ Count Rowe |
“ | Can you believe this, Gwendal? We've waited what feels like decades, and still no Imperial army! What is the emperor thinking? She promised to protect us! | „ |
~ Count Rowe |
“ | They had better. It's her promises that swayed me into betraying the Kingdom in the first place. I didn't do this just so my lands could be leveled by the king of Faerghus's fiery wrath. | „ |
~ Count Rowe |
“ | Viscount Elidure and Count Duval have both sent messages imploring me to surrender for the sake of my people... Yes, perhaps it's not too late. I can lure the Imperial army in and kill them, then beg the king for mercy! | „ |
~ Count Rowe |
“ | Lonato, you fool! Your rashness is to blame for all of this! | „ |
~ Count Rowe |
“ | Ugh! Then what would you have me do? Gwendal, you tell me! | „ |
~ Count Rowe |
“ | The Empire holds the advantage... attention all troops! We stand with Lady Edelgard! Put the King's forces to rout! | „ |
