~ Elise Landry while torturing John Kozlowski. |
Craig and Elise Landry are the main protagonists of the 2010 exploitation horror-thriller film The Tortured.
Formerly a young upper-middle class couple with a young son named Ben, Craig and Elise's seemingly idyllic suburban life is turned upside down when Ben was kidnapped and murdered by local pedophile and child killer John Kozlowski.
They were portrayed by Jesse Metcalfe, who also played Van McNulty in Smallville, and Erika Christensen, who also played Madison Bell in Swimfan and Lauren Cooper in Law & Order.
History[]
Craig and Elise were the parents of a six-year-old boy named Benjamin. One day, while out of sight of his parents, Benjamin was abducted by local child abuser and murderer John Kozlowski, who tormented and tortured the boy in the basement of his home before killing him.
Hellbent on seeing Kozlowski put away for life for the spate of child murders he committed, the Landrys were left dismayed by the verdict of the court, with Kozlowski only getting twenty-five years to life in state prison.
Vengeance started to loom over Elise and Craig who was unable to reason with her. Elise divorces her husband to continue contending her lament on her own. Craig finally made a determination and relocates his wife. They both separated for a bit and Craig contemplated suicide.
Eventually, they got back together and both decided to take matters into their own hands and formulate a plot to kidnap Kozlowski. They managed to take him from a police transport and held him hostage at an isolated cabin in the Vermont forest and sadistically torturing him as retribution for what he did to their son.
They start incinerating his skin with burning ash from a cigar Craig was smoking, then burning his nipple with fire pencil and then burning into his bladder, allowing blood to flow into it. John later admits that he cannot be anything but a killer.
Elise started to have qualms on whether her decision to culminate revenge is worth it after all. Craig said otherwise, saying he is nothing but a monster whom deserves to endure agony. However, John appears to not know of their son's demise.
Interpreted that amnesia has ensued after the pernicious torment, they break his foot and coerce him into remembering their son's name. John divulges his knowledge of their son. Elise and Craig start to contrive the most horrendous torture ever for their son's killer, along with reminiscing their son and making love with each other to rekindle their lost love.
Not everything was as it seems, however, as it revealed that the torture victim was a another felon whom shared the truck cell with John. The villain had escaped them and was captured after the police came looking for him. The Landrys eventually start to question their motives and the ethical conundrum of what they were doing when it becomes clear that there is more to their victim than meets the eye.
