Cranberry, also known as the Musician of the Forest, real name Ichigo Kurano, is the secondary antagonist of the Magical Girl Raising Project franchise.
She is the evil Magical girl veteran who was responsible for killing and exterminating many of the strongest Magical girls. In actuality, she and Fav are actually using the Magical girls as participants in a death game to satisfy their sadistic passions.
She was voiced by Megumi Ogata in Japanese and Anastasia Muñoz in English.
Biography[]
Ichigo Kurano was once an ordinary girl who was transformed by Fav and his master to be a Magical girl, becoming Cranberry. In a selection test to practice her worth, one of the Magical girls with the ability to summon anything accidentally summoned a demon. On a rampage, the demon killed the Magical girls one-by-one until Cranberry was left. Knowing she was next, Cranberry charged at the demon and killed it. From killing the beast, Cranberry grew a desire for fighting powerful foes from the rush of adrenaline. Fav, impressed by her surviving the bloodbath, offers Cranberry his terminal and tells her to make his selection game more fun for the both of them.
From there, Cranberry became the examiner of Fav's selection tests, where they trick people into becoming Magical girls and force them into a death battle to satisfy their lust for bloodshed. During the battles, Cranberry chose a strong Magical girl to battle against. To throw off suspicion, Fav sent false reports to the Land of Magic. Once the number of contestants in a test fell to one, Cranberry had Fav erase their memories.
In the game during the light novel and anime, Cranberry disguises herself as a regular Magical girl caught in the death game, although the others become very suspicious of her considering she rarely leaves the chatroom. After Nemurin becomes the first Magical girl to die as a consequence of collecting the least amount of candies, Cranberry purposely left a conversation of her asking Fav what will happen to the Magical girl with the least amount of candies to send them into enough paranoia to fight each other to survive.
Cranberry then targets Weiss Winterprison as a possible contender and battled her, but she and Sister Nana were able to escape. Later, after observing La Pucelle fight off Team Ruler for Snow White's candies, she becomes impressed and challenges La Pucelle to a battle. Despite his best efforts, Cranberry easily overwhelms La Pucelle and beats him to a bloody pulp while sadistically gloating about the thrill she gets from battling. After strangling him to unconscious, Cranberry left La Pucelle on the road where he is struck and killed by a truck. Afterwards, Cranberry chooses to stay silent and in wait for another powerful foe to appear in the game.
In Episode 10, Swim Swim and her team choose to track Cranberry while hunting down the remaining Magical girls to bring it down to Fav's requested four. They track her strolling down a forest and use their items to sneak up on her. However, given her sound abilities, Cranberry was anticipating the ambush, resulting in her wounding Tama and killing Minael. When Swim Swim attacks, Cranberry easily dodges her spear and uses Swim Swim's weakness of light to both defeat her and revert her to her human form. Before Cranberry could finish Swim Swim off, she is struck in the stomach by Tama. Tama's ability to create holes on any surface kicks in, causing Cranberry to grow a hole in her chest and combust, leaving only her legs behind.
Although Cranberry did not survive last in her final test, her legacy as a brutal Magical girl hunter was carried down by other Magical girls in the following tests. One was Melville, Cranberry's former student, who sought to avenge her mentor. Her past actions during Unmarked have also earned the enmity of Halna Midi Meren, whom Snow White even considered it as excessive.
Appearance[]
As a Magical girl, Cranberry has short dirty blonde hair that are wavy and salmon red eyes with elf ears. She also wears a white dress with two large sleeves, a black belt, lime-green stockings, black high-heels, and a crown of blue tulips on her head.
Personality[]
Cranberry is a sadistic, yet quiet recluse living in lonely forests. After making the deal with Fav, she is destined to hunt down the strong Magical girls. She will stop at nothing until she accomplishes her goal.
Powers and Abilities[]
- Audiokinesis - Cranberry can create, shape and manipulate sound, a periodic disturbance of a medium (air, ground, water, etc.) that radiates outward linearly in the form of a pressure wave. The effect these waves upon the ear is perceived as sound. From the point of view of physics, sound is considered to be the waves of vibratory motion themselves, whether or not they are heard by the human ear. User can mimic, intensify, hush, and distort, as well warp, strengthen, echo, speed up, and slow down sound, using it as a powerful physical force and high-speed movement. At low frequencies, sound can be potentially fatal to living beings by causing internal damage, while high frequencies cannot be heard by normal humans but can be used for sonar-like effects. Since sound vibrations can travel through the air, ground, water and any form of medium, defense by using physical barriers is difficult. The vibrations can also affect at a molecular level. In essence, sound is an invisible, deadly weapon and a versatile tool.
- Sonokinetic Constructs - Cranberry can turn sound into tools, objects, weapons and other items, create semi-living constructs and/or create structures/buildings of varying permanence. Users who have mastered this ability can use it for almost any situation, creating anything they need.
- Musical Combat - Cranberry is able to infuse music with physical attacks, using musical sound waves to influence and disorient opponents and strengthen attacks.
- Musical Regeneration - Cranberry can use music to regenerate her body, with the amount of music used defining the speed of healing.
Trivia[]
- Cranberry is the only Magical girl from the first arc whose real human form was never revealed. It and her full name were later revealed in a play called Unripe Duet.
