Creatures are the primary enemies in the House of the Dead series. They are the result of the twisted experiments performed by Dr. Curien in his attempt to gain mastery over life and death. After his death, the chaos and carnage continued on as Caleb Goldman used Curien's work to create his own armies of the monsters, unleashing them upon the world in his fanatical crusade to reset humanity and restore balance to nature.
Although many blatantly resemble and behave like zombies, Sega has always explicitly referred to the monsters as "creatures" due to their scientific origins.
History[]
In the 1990s, Doctor Roy Curien became obsessed with using his scientific brilliance to gain control over life and death, stemming from a desire to cure his son from a terminal illness. Although he was successful in saving his son, Curien had been driven mad in the process, and created entire legions of nightmarish creatures. In his insanity, he unleashed the hordes, almost killing everyone in the mansion, before meeting his end at the hands of his greatest creation, The Magician.
Afterwards, the knowledge of creating the ghouls and monsters fell into the hands Curien's financial backer, Caleb Goldman. Equally insane, Goldman saw the current state of the world as a perversion of nature, wishing to bring humanity to the brink in order to reset planet Earth. With this, the hordes of monsters were set loose once again. Although the outbreak was once again stopped, various individuals would go on to create their own Creatures for their own twisted desires, and three more outbreaks would occur after the events of 2003.
Appearance[]
The appearances of the Creatures can vary wildly. While many of the generic fodder look and behave just like zombies, the ones that serve as bosses can appear as anything ranging from mutated giants, demonic entities, or outright eldritch abominations.
Trivia[]
- Enemies actually called Zombies would eventually appear in the spin-off game, Zombie Revenge.
