“ | There was something a little creepy about Susie. Perhaps it was her collection of dead rats and chickens. Or maybe it was that she never smiled... Unless she was holding something slimy. | „ |
~ The narrator describing Susie. |
Creepy Susie is the titular main protagonist of the 1999 black comedy short story collection Creepy Susie and 13 Other Tragic Tales for Troubled Children (more especifically, the seventh eponymous story) and later on reappearing as one of the main characters of the adult animated TV series The Oblongs, which was loosely adapted from the short stories.
Unlike her TV series self, this version of Creepy Susie appears to be much more sociopathic, having several way more morbid interests and habits, as well as the story ending with her straight up commiting murder.
In the cartoon, she was voiced by Jeannie Elias.
History[]
Creepy Susie[]
Susie appears in the seventh story in the collection, simply titled "Creepy Susie". The narrator goes into detail about her life and what made her so creepy. They state that Susie owns a collection of animal corpses, particularly those of rats and chickens and she also never smiles unless she's holding something slimy. Oddly enough, the rest of her family was completely normal, except for her dad, who was an albino midget crossdresser.
A jock at her school called Eric Twinklebutt developed a crush on Susie and seemed to constantly flirt with her. Susie seemed to return the feelings, but could not find a way to express them. She tried reading romance novels to get inspiration, but it caused her to throw up in disgust. She then digs up the corpse of her great-great-great-grandmother, Ruby, so she can get some advice from her, but that obviously does not work as she was already dead. Eventually, Susie decides on what to do and the story ends with her murdering Eric Twinklebutt by lobotomizing him and then gleefuly smiling while holding his slimy exposed brain on her hands.
The Oblongs[]
Susie would later on make a reappearance in the adult animated TV show The Oblongs which used many of the characters created by Angus Oblong for these short stories. In the show, she's one of the residents of the Valley and a student at Hill Valley High, being part of Milo Oblong's friend group.
Comparing to her original self, she is severely toned down, as she appears to be less creepy and socially stunted and more friendlier in comparison. While still being technically an outcast, she does have a group of friends who she hangs out with constantly that she seems to genuinely care for and support in her own weird ways. While she doesn't seem to have any overt homicidal tendencies, Creepy Susie still has some morbid interests, as she has an odd fascination with death and one of the episodes even show that she's a pyromaniac. Unlike her short story self, though, this incarnation of Susie seems much more self-aware about her darker interests and even admits that she has a problem. Additionally, she also has a French accent in the show, which was not present in the original story since it had no dialogue. This idea was added in after being suggested by the series' executive producer, Bruce Helford.

Trivia[]
- Although the original book states that her family was completely normal, save for her father, the TV series was actually going to retcon that. Prior to its abrupt cancellation, the show was originally going to feature an episode on its second season that showed her family, which, according to some concept sketches by Angus Oblong himself, received a complete design makeover and now all shared Susie's gothic and creepy motif.
