A wolf and a fox, are not so different. Maybe they will believe you, maybe they won't, but it doesn't matter. Don't do it for them, do it for you. This is a chance to write your own story, to find a better life for you and your friends. Come on, what have you got to lose?
~ Diane showing her thievery skills to Wolf, holding the ring he stole from her earlier and then motivating him to redeem himself.
I didn't just go after it...I HAD it, and a clear escape route, but what I saw in the end was the tricky fox they always told me I was. It changed everything. So, now, instead of hurting people, I’m helping them. I’m still me. I’m just me on the right side. You’re doing the right thing. And someday your friends, if they’re real friends, I think they’ll understand.
~ Diane explaining to Wolf why she changed her ways.
Nope, I'm still the best! Just like riding a stolen bicycle.
~ Diane on her abilities as a criminal.

Diane Foxington, also known as her criminal alter-ego The Crimson Paw, is one of the two deuteragonists (alongside Mr. Snake) of DreamWorks' The Bad Guys franchise, based on the book series by Aaron Blabey.

She was a master thief that became the number 1 criminal due to her perfect skills that allowed her to successfully escape in all her heists. However, she eventually regrets her actions and decides to start a new life as a better person becoming the Governor of Los Angeles.

She is voiced by Zazie Beetz who also played Bo in Black Mirror and played Hornet in Bullet Train.

Appearance[]

Diane is a tall, beautiful, pear-shaped red fox with ginger fur. She has pale-apricot patches on her face, spread around her eyes, muzzle, chest, inside her pointed ears, the front of her paws, and the tip of her bushy tail. She has soft, fluffy face fur, black lip liner, sharp blackeyebrows, with the left one having two small, round silver piercings. She has tiny black claws and a smallpink nose. Her most noticeable feature is her wide, oval-shaped eyes with emerald green irises and fluttery eyelashes.

Diane wears four different outfits throughout the movie. As the governor, her main outfit is elegant business attire. She wears thin oval glasses, a diamondnecklace, and a matching bracelet on her right wrist. Her outfit includes a gray business pantsuit with an unbuttoned jacket, revealing a white long-sleeved collared shirt and a black navy silk necktie, along with black high heels.

At the Golden Dolphin award ceremony, she wore a golden necklace and bracelet, similar to her previousones. She wore a strapless, magenta-pink sweetheart-style dress made of satin or silk, paired with high heels in the same color. She also had a ring that held the Zumpango Diamond.

During the Gala for Goodness, she wore the same golden necklace and bracelet, but in a different outfit—a strapless royal-blue jumpsuit with an overskirt and sparkly-white high heels. She also carried a handbag.

As The Crimson Paw, she wears a tight black stealth suit with yellow stripes on the sides and a small yellow"X" stitched into the hood. She has a black neck balaclava, black arm bracers, and black over-the-knee boots with a yellow stripeabove the soles. A black utility belt with a thin black buckle is around her waist. Her suit was designed to cover all her fox features, including her tail, which is completely hidden.

Personality[]

At first, Diane was very critical of the Bad Guys and opposed to the experiment to reform them. However, she gradually became interested in helping them change. When Mr. Wolf talked about how the world viewed him, Diane showed understanding and wanted him and his friends to have a better life. She used to be a thief who loved her criminal life, but the shame of fitting the image of a clever fox made her stop being a criminal and become a politician to make up for her past.

As the movie goes on, Diane becomes the only real supporter of the Bad Guys, even when Marmalade turns the city against them. She is also selfless—after stopping a corrupt executive's plan, she tries to explain that the Bad Guys are not responsible for the stolen meteorite, even though it would mean admitting she was the Crimson Paw and ruining her new life. Luckily, Mr. Wolf and his friends refuse to let her do that and surrender to the police.

Overall, Diane is smart, intelligent, and kind-hearted. She genuinely wants the Bad Guys to have a better life and uses her skills to help others. Her desire to become governor shows her wish to do good in the world. After revealing she was once the Crimson Paw, she tells Mr. Wolf that her move to politics was to make up for her past and to do good.

Abilities[]

The Crimson Paw vs. Prison Guards

As the governor of California, Diane has strong leadership skills. She is also very charismatic, and her understanding and empathy encourage Mr. Wolf more than Marmalade’s lessons ever could.

As the former thief, the Crimson Paw, Diane was a much better thief than the Bad Guys, even thinking they were sloppy at first. She did heists alone, unlike the gang, and could have easily stolen the Golden Dolphin by herself. The Bad Guys barely managed it and were caught quickly afterward. Diane also has better combat skills than Mr. Piranha, as she easily defeats the entire police force guarding the prison. She also had access to better and more effective equipment than the gang.

The Bad Guys: Breaking In[]

To be added...

The Bad Guys[]

Diane is first seen on the news talking about the Bad Guys. She says she feels sorry for them but alsocriticizes them, calling them second-rate has-beens. She says their crimes are driven by anger, denial, and self-loathing, and that nothing they steal can ever fill those feelings. She also mentions a Good Samaritan award where she will give out a Golden Dolphin to the "Goodest Citizen." Wolf and the Bad Guys plan to stealthe award to get her back.

Later, Diane is at a Gala with Misty Luggins. She goes through a retinal scanner for security. When the Bad Guys enter the Gala in disguises, she is seentalking with the ambassador and his wife. Mr. Wolf, dressed as Mr. Poodleton, draws her attention by callingthe big statue trash. Diane replies, "They say that art reveals more about the viewer than the artist." As he introduces his fake identity to her, she doesn't know that Wolf has stolen her ring. She says the sculpture is about perspective and that trash can be turned into something beautiful, showing a shadow of a swan. She then takes a selfie with Wolf for his plan.

Diane later enters the Gala to announce that a meteorite hit California and that Professor Marmalade has won the Good Samaritan Award. But before the ceremony starts, Wolf, Snake, Piranha, and Tarantula steal the Dolphin. When the Bad Guys are about to be arrested, Diane talks to the reporters and witnesses. Wolf interrupts and convinces her and Marmalade to give the Bad Guys a second chance. She agrees only if the Bad Guys are under Marmalade's control. Diane tells Mr. Wolf to make the most of this change.

After the Bad Guys' first day in Marmalade's reformation program and later after a failed lab heist where Snake tried to eat the guinea pigs and made them look bad, Diane is angry and decides to stop the reform plan and send the Bad Guys to jail. Wolf tries to talk her out of it, but she isn't impressed and calls him "gutless" for not showing the world that he's more than just a scary stereotype. Wolf gets frustrated and tells her that people like her will neverbelieve they can change. Diane then quietly takes back her ring from Wolf, showing that "a wolf and a foxare not so different," and tells him to try to change for his own sake.

Her words deeply affect Mr. Wolf, and later that night he does a good deed by saving a cat from a tree and being kind to it. Marmalade films the event and shares it online, helping the Bad Guys gain public support. At the Gala, Diane invites Mr. Wolf to dance, and they start getting along. During a break, she asks him how it feels to be loved instead of feared. He says it feels really good and gives her his diamond ring.

As Wolf is about to carry out the final part of his plan, he can't go through with it because betraying the trust and love he's received from Diane is too much. Suddenly, Marmalade accuses the Bad Guys of stealing the Love Meteorite. While being chased by the police, Wolf quickly gives Diane a map to the gang's hideout and loot. Marmalade reveals himself as a villainto the Bad Guys privately, and Wolf attacks him for lying and turning Snake against him. But cleverly, Marmalade opens the door in front of everyone, making them look worse, as no one knows Marmalade is the real crook.

After the setup is done and the Bad Guys lose everything, Diane is disappointed and saddened, but she isn't easily fooled. She notices Marmalade acting strangely after being "attacked," making her think he set them up. She also remembers the map Wolf gave her. When she reaches the hideout and sees all the loot, she realizes that Wolf is sincere and realize Marmalade's true nature and that he really did set them up.

Diane soon return to her identity as the Crimson Paw and sneaks into the S.U.C.M. Prison. Using her strength, agility, and clever tactics—including kicking a shoe at two guards to knock them out—she manages to take down many guards on her own. She frees the innocent Bad Guys and, after fighting even more guards, escapeswith them in a boat. Unfortunately, the Bad Guys split up from Wolf because they feel betrayed by his change of heart, thinking he doesn’t want to be around them after Marmalade tries to make them believethat. Diane comforts Wolf, shares her own journey of redemption, and assures him that if his friends are truly his friends, they’ll forgive him and join him.

She reveals she has a secret base under her house and takes Wolf there to get ready with all her gadgets. With Wolf’s help, she figures out Marmalade’s plan to use mind-controlled guinea pigs to steal charitymoney from vans and take it to him. She also uses hacking to find the vans’ location and route. She givesWolf her car to help him out, and the two head to Marmalade’s mansion to stop him by stealing the Meteorite. They almost succeed, but Wolf falls into a trap Diane had warned him about.

Professor Marmalade catches them in his lair and locks them in a death trap while his henchman, Cuddles, watches. They’re saved by the reformed Webs, Shark, and Piranha (while Snake, who has also turned good, pretendsto be on Marmalade’s side). The group steals the Meteorite, which is actually a lamp, and escapes the compound. When the stolen "Meteorite" doesn’t stop the mind control, the gang uses Diane’s gadgets and Webs’ hacking to redirect the hijacked vans back to where they started. Diane tells the reformed Bad Guys to meet her at the police station to clear their names. However, they sacrifice their chance to bring Mr. Snake back to their side.

Once everything is settled, Diane tries to convince the police the Bad Guys are innocent. When Luggins accuses her of being in on the crime, Diane realizes the only way to prove their innocence is to admit she was the Crimson Paw, which would mean giving up everything she’s built. Fortunately, Mr. Wolf refuses to let her do that and surrenders instead, followed by the rest of the gang. Thanks to Mr. Snake’s clever plan, he exposes Marmalade as the real thief, making everyone realize the Bad Guys had nothing to do with the Meteorite theft. Marmalade is defeated and sent to prison after the Zumpango Diamond, that Diane still kept out of sentimentality and Marmalade taking the diamond to keep it as part of his collection of stolen objects after he captured Wolf and Diane, falls out of his pocket when the lamp falls on him. He desperately tries to tell everyone that Diane is the real Crimson Paw, but no one believes him now that they know he’s a fraud and a liar. Diane holds the Golden Dolphin and smugly waves goodbye.

At the end of the film, the Bad Guys are released from prison after a year of good behavior. Diane comes to pick them up in her car, and Diane, the Bad Guys, and the cat, ride off into the sunset, ready to do more hero work.

The Bad Guys 2[]

After their release, Wolf, Shark, Piranha, and Webs struggle to find jobs in society, while Snake is usually away. Wolf spends time training with Diane to get stronger, but they can’t start a relationship because of her position as governor and his criminal past. Diane inspires Wolf to help others accept him and his friends, which leads him to help Commissioner Misty Luggins track down the Phantom Bandit, a new criminal, who turns out to being Snake, who is with his new girlfriend, Susan. Just then, the Bad Guys are framed for the Phantom Bandit’s crimes. Wolf calls Diane for help, and she agrees to assist them.

The Bad Guys are later kidnapped by a group of female criminals—Kitty Kat, Pigtail, and Doom. Doom, who used the name "Susan" as an alias, is using Snake to lure the Bad Guys. Kitty recruits them to steal the experimental MoonX rocket. She shows video footage that reveals Diane as the Crimson Paw, her old identity, as blackmail. Meanwhile, Diane visits her old enemy, Professor Marmalade, in prison. He tells her Kitty plans to use the MOON-X space station's magnet, which can steal the world's gold when combined with a special metal called MacGuffinite. With that new information, Diane tracks down the BadGirls' location and heads to the MoonX base to stop them. Upon arriving at MoonX, Diane confronts the BadGirls before they can board the rocket and defeats them in a physical fight, but then the girls tell Diane, calling her Crimson Paw, that she is no longer the Governor and to check her phone, Diane checks her phone and discovers that the whole world discovered that she's The Crimson Paw because of an internet video Kitty posted, Foxington gets devastated as she sees the hateful comments against her and her career and reputation destroyed. Diane is tranquilized by Kitty while distracted, but manages to sneak on board while half-conscious. With the revelation of Foxington's life of crime, the police begin looking for corrupt politics and Professor Marmalade is declared innocent of her crimes, so he's immediately released.

Wolf cleverly steals Kitty's watch, which helps him guide the rocket to the space station. He uses this to destroy the magnet and bring the gold back to Earth. Kitty becomes very angry and tries to kill Wolf, but Diane, who is very upset, saves Wolf by beating Kitty up and defeating her. Wolf and Diane then get back together and share their first kiss. The Bad Guys gather again as the space station falls toward Earth, while Pigtail and Doom escape with Kitty in a pod. After crashing, Kitty goes to jail, and Pigtail and Doom get community service. Luggins makes it look like the Bad Guys and Diane are dead so they can work as secret agents. Wolf and Diane finally become a couple. It's unclear who became the new governor after Diane's fake death and exposure.
