Penitent One in sleeplessness. Carrying the guilty sword, you have committed the most serious crimes against the Mother and her Saints, against the Miracle and its outbreaks. We have been entrusted with putting an end to your mission. I, Crisanta in penance, excommunicate you, expel you, execrate you, with the blessing of Our Miracle of the Greatest Pain. And thus shall your name be erased under the heavens.
~ Crisanta before battling the Penitent One.
That sword you wield... The High Wills sing that I must escape the kiss of its steel, as it is wholly tainted by the heresy of its bearer. The Great Ones, from the Eternal Processions, demand that I should battle until I draw my dying breath. The Three... The High Voices proclaim that your execution cannot be delayed. And so I fear... my penance is far from over. Not while their voices still echo... Not while your silence endures...
~ Crisanta transiting to her second phase.

Crisanta is the secondary antagonist of the indie game Blasphemous.

She was voiced by Ali Dowling in English and Ana Esther Alborg in Spanish.

Biography[]

Blasphemous[]

Crisanta is the highest knight in legion under Escribar, the priest of the Cvstodian theocracy church. When the Miracle occurred, her sword was inflected with unstable magic, which was neutralized using a red cloth anointed in consecrated oils. As seen in the tie-in prequel comic Blasphemous: The Kneeling, she assisted in the mass execution of the Brotherhood of the Silent Sorrow cult under Escribar's orders. She also fought and defeated the Penitent One before his revival, revealing herself to be penitent, although she claimed her goal was "different, opposite, yet complementary" compared to his.

At the Archcathedral Rooftops of the Mother of Mothers, Crisanta confronts the Penitent One, where she accuses him of committing crimes against the Miracle and declares her motive to strike him down using the power of the Miracle through her sword. Despite her stronger strength and speed compared to the Penitent One, even removing the cloth to fully empower her blade, the Penitent One defeats Crisanta where she stood. Before dealing a finishing blow, Crisanta parries the strike and teleports away in retreat.

Should the Penitent One successfully replace Escribar as the next Last Son of the Miracle, after the credits, Crisanta can be seen retracting the Mea Culpa sword from the Penitent's One's corpse, beginning the cycle anew.

Wounds of Eventide[]

The Blasphemous: Wounds of Eventide DLC reveals that Crisanta was given the Holy Wound of Abnegation from the Exiled Visage to reveal to her the truth of the Miracle. However, the High Wills "chained her soul" to prevent the info from spreading out.

If the Penitent One follows a new questline and obtains the Apodictic Heart of the Mea Culpa after returning the eyes of the Traitor from Sierpes and Isidora, he will once again confront Crisanta on the Archcathedral Rooftops and defeat her. Upon defeating her, Crisanta proclaims that the Great Ones from the Eternal Processions order her to battle until her dying breath, declaring that stoping the Penitent One and the Mea Culpa is her penance. The Penitent One defeats her again. She orders the Penitent One to finish her off, but instead he uses the Mea Culpa to slice the "chains" restraining Crisanta, freeing her from the High Wills' control.

Seeking atonement for her sins, Crisanta follows the Penitent One after he is lifted to the other side of the dream from atop the ash mountain. Crisanta helps the Penitent One in defeating Escribar when he appears to stop him by using her sword to block his laser attacks. Once they encounter the High Wills, Crisanta deals the finishing blow by slicing the central head, destroying them and putting an end to the Miracle for good.

With the Penitent One's penance complete, the Mea Culpa dissolves into dust and he dies. Deogracias and Crisanta then carry his corpse to a tomb, with Crisanta saying a prayer before Deogracias entombs the Penitent One.

Blasphemous II[]

Many years after the High Wills were slain, the prayers for greater power to relieve the suffering of men allowed the Miracle to return, creating a new child. Crisanta attempted to destroy the child before it was born, but Eviterno, the first Penitent who was revived by the Miracle, bested her in combat. Crisanta then impaled herself on her sword, taking her life so her will would revive the Penitent One.

Appearance[]

Crisanta wears silver armor around her body. Like the Penitent One, her helmet is cone-shaped with a face mask in the form of a woman covering her eyes with her hands. She also wears a blue cape and red leather gloves.
