The time has come for us to stand shoulder-to-shoulder, and together... we'll make the universe, TREMBLE''
~ Cronos as Typhon releases him, as well as his most famous quote.

Cronos is the overarching antagonist of the Netflix animated series, Blood of Zeus.

Cronos was once the original ruler of the universe and is the father of all Olympians specifically the six oldest, Zeus, Poseidon, Hades, Hera, Demeter, and Hestia. Like the myths, Cronos fell from grace as he chooses to consume his children out of fear that one of them would overthrow him. Finally free from his imprisonment, Cronos seeks revenge on his children for overthrowing him and the other titans especially Zeus, the one who slew him. While at that, he tries to bring back the rule of the titans once again with himself as ruler.

He was voiced by Alfred Molina, who played Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2, Lasombra from Hey Arnold!: the Jungle Movie, Ke-Pa from Kung-Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Destiny from Justice League Dark, Rippen from Penn Zero: Part Time Hero, Mictlan from Maya and the Three, Mr. Freeze from the Harley Quinn TV series, Maxim Horvath from The Sorcerer's Apprentice, The Duke from Solar Opposites, Satipo from Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Mordros the Annihilator from Hamster and Gretel.

Cronos flashback

Cronos as he is about to consume one of his offsprings.

Many centuries ago, Cronos was the king of the titans and ruler of Olympus. He was the god of time and is married to Rhea, the titan of motherhood and daughter of Gaia. They would gain several children, who will soon be known as the Olympians, however, Cronos receives a prophecy that one of his children will usurp him one day. Out of fear that one of his children will betray him, Cronos decided to commit the unforgivable act of swallowing his kids, so the prophecy won't come true. He even went so far to imprison the primordial giants in the Underworld because he believes that they were too powerful and might want to overthrow him as well.

Rhea, upset of witnessing her children be consumed by her husband, decided to protect her remaining son, Zeus, with the help of Gaia and Hecate. She gave her son to Gaia, who takes him to the Hidden Realm, while Hecate creates a false baby with rocks wrapped around a blanket. Rhea gives the false baby to Cronos, who then consumed it not knowing that his wife conspired against him. As Zeus became old enough, he confronted his father and freed all of his siblings by killing Cronos.

Season 1 & 2[]

Cronos is briefly mentioned by Zeus, when he was trying to talk to his son, Heron. Zeus confess that he barely knows his father and had to kill him in order to free his siblings. Zeus says that lacking a suitable parent, may be the reason why he is the way he is. In season 2, he was featured in a flashback by Seraphim, he was telling a story to the Curetes guards of Cronos's rule and the guards raising an infant Zeus as to persuade them in letting him enter the Hidden Realm.

Season 3[]

Cronos makes his official appearance in season 3 as the main antagonist. He was serving his punishment in Tartarus until he was visited by his mother Gaia who tired of the gods' constant bickering for selfish and petty reasons unleashed the beast Typhon in order to destroy them once and for all. Cronos is not surprised by this as he was expecting Gaia would return back to him after betraying him. Gaia is saddened by the hatred her son has for her but still gives him a chance at escaping hoping Cronos will learn for his past mistakes, to no avail though. Later Cronos is freed by Typhon and the Titan King and the Beast come together to bring the universe to its knees.

After Cronos is freed he summons back his divine sickle and visites a captured Hades. Cronos sadistically informs his son that what he sees is not an illusion and he is truly back to get his revenge on him and his siblings. He then takes Hades' bident and goes to realise the other Titans. Hades espapes and tries to attack him but Cronos overpowers him and beats him up severely. Then he forces Hades to unlock the mechanism he built for his wife Persephone to brink the sun in Underworld his his bident, so the sun would return Cronos to his titanic size. Then a giant Cronos freed the other imprisoned Titans and together they destroyed Hades' castle. After the destruction Cronos ordered Hades to reveal where the soul of the recently deceased Zeus was held so he may destroyed it once an for all and with that destroy the only threat to his plans of conquest. Hades refuses which angers Cronos.

Appearance[]

Cronos appears to be a tall muscular tan man with markings all over his body. He has a long grey hair and beard with items to tie them up. He wears a red robe and two armbands for his leg and arm. His eye color is golden but in some moments his eyes change to white.

Trivia[]

  • In Greek mythology, Cronos is actually spelled as Cronus or Kronos while the spelling of Cronos comes from Chronos, who's the personification of time itself. Despite that, the different spellings tend to overlap with each other.
  • He has a point that unlike the Gods, the mortals was in the Golden Age under his rule, which is 100% truth since the Titans never meddle the mortals affairs like the Gods do.
