The Crooked Energy, also known as the Crooked Man, is the main antagonist in the 2019 Netflix superhero drama series, Raising Dion. It is an entity born from an unknown origin besides indicated to have come from the meteor shower during the Aurora Event and possessed Pat Rollins into becoming its host, therefore making the Crooked Energy's indirectly responsible for Pat's actions, including the murder of Mark Warren and Walter Mills, both fathers of Dion and Brayden respectively.

After being defeated for the first time, the Crooked Energy soon possessed Brayden and plotted its revenge against Dion by creating a garden of Glowing Flowers inside a sinkhole that spreads infectious spores that turns people into plant monsters. After its scheme failed, it went back into Pat Rollins during the second season's finale.

It was voiced by Baldwin Williams Jr., (who was uncredited), who also played Harley Sawyer in Poppy Playtime.

Personality[]

Although its origin came from the meteorites during the Aurora Event within the surface, the Crooked Energy is shown to be a manipulative and intelligent entity that has developed an obsession for revenge and homicidal intent to kill Dion.

While there wasn't much interaction and dialogue between it and Pat prior to its defeat, The Crooked Energy is shown to be capable of holding up a facade as he manipulated and further corrupted his second host, Brayden Mills, as it made the boy think the entity understands him while promising to be by his side. While in actuality, the promise was nothing more than a lie to continue feeding on Brayden's negative impulses to further gain strength, the same way he did to Pat when the latter's jealousy began to overcome him. Crooked Energy is also capable of expressing sadism and arrogance when it felt all the emotions it absorbed making him stronger and how it would taunt Dion out of spite through or possessing Brayden.

Apart from its intelligence, it also seems to hold good memory and complete understanding of human interaction, as well as strategizing its plans when creating the Glowing Flowers within the sinkhole near Dion's school to spread tons of infectious spores rapidly. When it forcibly possessed Brayden, it would soon portray and act like Brayden to hide its identity from Dion for a little while before revealing who it was in the final battle.

It also seems to have no genuine care for its hosts, especially Pat, since he left him when it described him as "weak" and the same could occur on Brayden. Despite having to save the boy from a thief back at the arcade, it likely killed it to get his trust, though Brayden still rebuked him for the action. After having Brayden as its permanent host fails, it desperately goes back to Pat, though out of pragmatism to its own survival once it witnessed Pat's abilities restored, being the reason for making Pat its host again.

Biography[]

Pre-Series + Season 1[]

The Crooked Energy's existence possibly originated from the meteorites during the Aurora Event that gave everyone present in the said event to gain superpowers as a result, but in Pat's case, he somehow received the entity that possessed when it had something to do with the lesions that were decaying his body.

The energy would soon make its debut as the Crooked Man when Pat got dumped by his girlfriend as it comes out of Pat against his will and absorbing Kerry in the process. As the lesions halt their decay due to absorbing Powered people, this led the entity to have Pat kill and hunt them down, having to kill several of them so far. The Crooked Man then made its way to New Orleans to absorb and kill Charlotte Tuck but ends up killing Mark Warren in the process, something its host Pat wasn't even aware of.

Later on in the series, the Crooked Man would then target two more people, such as Jill Noonan at her cabin and Walter Mills importantly as his son Brayden was forced to watch his father's demise. After a while, the Crooked Man was seen stalking Dion in his room last night in hopes of hunting down its next target.

As the influence it had on Pat continues to grow worse, it'd soon appear before Charlotte Tuck as the Crooked Man transforming out from Pat as it manages to successfully absorb and kill her. As soon as Pat tracks down Nicole in the woods, he'd ended up confessing that he has been killing Powered people because of his lesions before having the Crooked Energy from him teleport to where Dion is.

When Pat fails to get Dion to heal him, he breaks down as the Crooked Man comes out once more to hunt down Dion for the last time, not long before BIONA appeared to assist them. The Crooked Man and Dion would fight for the first time until Nicole uses a lighting rod to their advantage and destroys the Crooked Man, causing it to release all the souls of the people it killed.

However, it was revealed to have survived its defeat and left Pat Rollins to find a much stronger vessel, though a bit of the energy still remained in the latter. The entity proceeds to possess Brayden and killed his abusive aunt as the boy walks away with the energy inside him.

Season 2[]

For the last two years, Brayden has been on the run and won a Nintendo Switch via mind-controlling the clerk thanks to Crooked Energy. When Brayden gets attacked by a thief, the Crooked Energy kills him as Brayden states to it that it wasn't necessary before the death caused a massive blackout. Brayden then used the energy to brainwash a couple into leading him to Atlanta to get near Dion, all part of the entity's plan for revenge.

After arriving at Dion's school and on one night, the Crooked Energy heads down into the sinkhole where it first produced a source of flowers that glowed underground as it carried infectious spores that turns people into plant monsters. The first one that fell victim to the spores was Gary Stafford.

In an attempt to get close to Dion, the entity had Brayden get Dion to show him around the school before it comes out without Brayden knowing as it prepares to kill Dion, only to be forced to dissipate itself when Dion was too strong to get close to. At night, Brayden and the Crooked Man got into an argument about why it didn't kill Dion as the entity tries justifying the fact that Brayden's emotions made him stronger as it suggested to him to get through Dion from the "inside".

The Crooked Energy then sensed Pat's presence the other day as it had Brayden tell Dion that he's by the sinkhole, therefore exposing him to have Dion nearly attack him out of vengeance before Nicole and Suzanne arrived. Meanwhile, the spores from the Glowing Flowers started to spread around the city of Atlanta in hopes of expanding Crooked Energy's plan to form its army, one of the victims also included Nicole when she was attacked by Gary.

On the other night after Brayden's hangout with Dion went wrong, Brayden would be further manipulated by the entity's words before calling him out for killing his father. the Crooked Energy justifies that Pat was the one who killed him because he was "weak" and reassures him that they'll have their revenge as the spores continued spreading. Because of manipulating the facts, Brayden would meet Pat in his mind and threaten to kill him if he dared tell anybody about his existence.

The entity is later seen in the forest where Dion, Kat, and Tevin were before it had crows stalking over the boy. Once it had Brayden tried to force Tevin to kill Dion, the boy ran away before a flock of crows chased him after before forming the face of the Crooked Man itself as it soon attacked him to let Brayden have the chance. Once this failed, the entity and Brayden escaped, not before Tevin would track them down.

After Tevin investigated the house Brayden was staying on, he's last seen in the shed as the Crooked Energy appeared before him, wanting to stop hurting others before the entity states that it is irrelevant before it forcibly possessed Brayden against his will, shutting off any emotion inside the boy. The possessed Brayden would soon encounter Dion at school to fight him while impersonating his personality, not before it was stopped with the help of Esperanza and Jonathan as it made its escape.

On the night of the musical revue, the entity's army would appear before the possessed Brayden right at the sinkhole when it telepathically threaten Dion to fight with him or it'll kill all his friends and take his powers. Once Dion and Nicole arrive, the entity had its army attack them for a while until Tevin and Janelle arrive at their own time pacing while fighting against the monsters and the possessed Brayden.

Once Dion and the rest were restrained by the plant monsters, the possessed Brayden then reveals itself to be the Crooked Man after years of its defeat before having its chance to kill Dion. However, the words of Nicole manages to reach out to Brayden as the plant monsters ceased, causing the Crooked Energy to be forced out of Brayden before heading down into the sinkhole to produce more flowers to spread the infection once more, not before Dion stops it in time using the cure as it reverted everyone back to normal.

The Crooked Man is last seen with Pat awakening his abilities once more through P-DNA, heading back inside Pat out of desperation after its plan to kill Dion failed as it became one with Pat again.
