The Cross Guild are major antagonists in One Piece. They are a criminal organization founded by Crocodile and Dracule Mihawk through Buggy's struggling business and operate it through putting out bounties on the Marines. It was originally founded with the intent of resuming Crocodile's plan "Operation: Utopia", but after Buggy found the courage to follow his dream, the organization found itself in the race for One Piece against the other Emperors of the Sea.
History[]
Founding[]
After the Summit War of Marineford, Buggy the Clown was invited to join the Seven Warlords of the Sea due to his increased popularity as one of the Pirate King, Gol D. Roger's former apprentices, which he accepted. Using the protection his title granted him, as well as a massive loan given to him by the former Warlord, Crocodile, he and his crew moved to Karai Bari Island in the New World, where they set up a mercenary group known as Buggy's Delivery.
Eventually, due to the actions of both Crocodile and Donquixote Doflamingo during their time as Warlords, the Seven Warlords system was dissolved and its members made into criminals again. Taking advantage of the situation, Crocodile contacted Dracule Mihawk when offering the latter to become his business partner and announced his idea for a new criminal organization called the "Cross Guild", which they would lead together due to their commonly holding a complete distrust for others when Crocodile knows of Mihawk's past as a "Marine Hunter". Mihawk was convinced and accepted to become Crocodile's partner. He then saves Buggy and his crew from a fleet of Marine Battleships so that the clown could pay off the debt he owed. Since he did not have the money on hand, a desperate Buggy instead offers himself and his crew as a willing labor force for the Cross Guild, using their notoriety to announce it to the world.
However, as a result misconception, Buggy was acknowledged as the leader of the Cross Guild, while Crocodile and Mihawk were his subordinates. Because of this, the World Government declared Buggy as a member of the Four Emperors, alongside Monkey D. Luffy, after Kaido and Big Mom had been defeated. Understandably upset by this turn of events, Crocodile and Mihawk took their rage out on the clown, but then Mihawk realized that they could use him as a public figurehead while they runs operation in the shadows to avoid any unwanted attention, and they can always dispose of Buggy should the need arise, which Crocodile agrees to. Thus, Buggy was forced to cooperate with his captors under the false pretense that he was their boss.
Final Saga[]
Egghead Arc[]
After the Cross Guild welcomes a new member, who murdered a famous Marine Vice-Admiral in order to support his starving family, its shipwrights finish construction of its official flagship, which has Buggy's face as the figurehead, much to his shock. Displeased by this tasteless design, the disgusted Crocodile and Mihawk take Buggy to a torture room and punish him for it. They then start discussing how to accumulate the wealth and power necessary to create the military state that Crocodile envisioned. However, Buggy then interjects and states that they should go after the One Piece instead since Red-Haired Shanks is finally making his move for it.
Crocodile and Mihawk disagree with him and having no interest to fight Shanks, Blackbeard or Luffy, but Buggy announces to his subordinates that they will search for the One Piece, making them elated and angering the de-facto leaders. All Buggy's subordinates cheering for Buggy for knowing the truth about the World Government. However, Crocodile and Mihawk were annoyed. Crocodile sternly ordered Buggy to sit down.
Powers and Abilities[]
Having been founded by two powerful former members of the Seven Warlords of the Sea (three if you include Buggy), the Cross Guild's power and influence became equivalent to that of an Emperor's crew. They have enough wealth to issue out their own bounties on any individuals who oppose them, including Marines. Therefore, the Navy will not only have to worry about attacks from pirates (which includes the Blackbeard Pirates), but those from bounty hunters and even civilians as well. Under normal circumstances, the Marine captains' bounty is worth 1 star and a Marine admiral is worth 3 crowns. Cross Guild make a special addition bounties on the famous Marines such as Koby (due to him being the Hero of the Rocky Port Incident) worth 5 stars and Monkey D. Garp (due to his reputation as the legendary hero) worth 3 crowns.
